i'm looking at two engine for a future project build and no i won't say what brand but just to make it easier lets just say the 2.6 is engine A and the 4.9 is engine B. I guess the real question that i'm asking is that will the cubic inch that the 4.9 has make up for the difference in power that the 2.6 could acomplish with the better heads due to the fact the 2.6 has 2 extra valves per cylinder.

no matter what engine i wind up using it will be turbo charged.

As the tuner's mantra states: There's absolutely no replacement for displacement. The smaller motor might be able to rev higher, but it won't have the fat torque curve and powerband of the larger motor. This will be even more prevalent when forced induction is applied.

I don't think that the head issue is really as great as you say. Besides, I imagine that you'll do some head work to smooth things out when you apply boost anyway... that is, if you're smart about it.

What's the specific output of each engine in stock trim (at peak RPM)?

4.9L 145hp 265tq all motor 473lbs
2.6L 280hp 260tq twin turbo

i can't find the weight of the 2.6 but i might as well come out and say it because how many 2.6's have ever been made and there only one 4.9 gasoline that i know off so the two engines i'm comparing are a skyline 2.6 and a ford yes FORD 4.9 truck engine. i don't know if it would fit in a 240 nissan since i've never seen either the car or the engine up close but i thought it might be a cool project after i sell my mustang. i've heard rumers of an aluminum head in the works for a 4.9 and if i put twin turbos on the 4.9 i think it would more than likly beat my mustang. plus since it's a truck block it should hold up to more power. a 4.9 is a 300inch with std bore but if i bore it .060 over it will be a 309.

I pulled this off of a website

The FORD 4.9L engine produces 107 continuous horsepower @ 2800 rpm on gasoline and 94hp on LPG. The engine weighs 473 pounds and installation dimensions are 36.3"L, 27.17"H and 24.7"L.

now i'm not sure weather i want to do the swap since i just found out that the 92 f150 with the 4.9 fuel injected only got 15-16 mpg.

But you have to consider two important factors when conisdering fuel economy: weight and aerodynamic drag. Trucks obviously weigh a lot more than cars and are barley more than a rolling brick in the air. That engine in a car would increase those sad fuel numbers.

would there be a better car to use than a 240sx? i need something rear wheel drive that can hold a big engine and doesn't cost to much to get. the real point in doing this build is to have better gas milage than my stang and be faster at the same time.
