So I've really been wanting to get rid of my crappy Saturn SL1 (First car, had it for almost 4 years) and I've been looking into an 04 RX8, a 95-99 Civic or a 99 Eclipse.

Mainly I want to buy something that I can work on performance wise, but also possibly visual wise. I know Eclipse and Civic's both have alot of options, but I'm not sure about the RX8. Also, about everyone I've talked to says that Rotary Engines are crap and expensive to repair and maintain.

Advice?

Rotary engines are high maintenance, that's all. They have a few quirks that can be annoying if you don't know too much about it, so, if you aren't sure about it, I wouldn't go for a rotary powered engine. The 99 Eclipse is a good platform, but it seems as if Mitsubishi is fading in popularity and demand. Every Mitsu dealership I've been to seems to be dead in the water, so to speak. At least, that's the way it seems in Connecticut. Honda just rules the scene with aftermarket support. Until you become an avid builder, I would go that route so that you gain some tuner experience and become comfortable with it. Besides, I've been noticing some crazy HP gains from some of the builds lately.
I was wondering... What about building up the Saturn? It's just a thought.

I'm a Nissan head my self, but it seems as if this dude is a bit new to tuning so making it fun and also having an avenue to learning the hobby/life style would be a better way to get his feet wet. Don't you think?
