I was helping a fellow tech at the Hyundai dealer that I'm at with an A.C. issue. It wasn't cooling and thwe compressor wasn't engaging. When it did it didn't stay for very long. Hyundai AC compressors stay engaged when used and they don't cycle. That's just a hint for any one messing with Hyundai technology. Any way, we performed a few checks with voltage, relays and resistance on the system. All checked out well. We decided to hook up the GDS (Hyundai scanner) and noticed that the engine temperature was a bit high on the digital read out even though the the indicator on the dash wasn't showing any issues. We initially thought it was an error with the ECU, but every thing was with in spec when we performed a physical test of components. In the end, for kicks and giggles, we decided to replace the thermostat for the engine coolant. Well, believe it or not, it fixed the AC issue. Apparently, the ECU saw the engine too hot and kept the AC from engaging so that it wouldn't over heat fro the AC being used. That's a first for me. I hope I'm not the only one that found this issue out with Hyundai. Any other Hyundai heads come accross this? If not, you just got a little more info and skill under your belt.
