That has to be the most interesting occurance in my life. www.quad4forums.com did not let me join their forum on account of not meeting their criteria for membership. It's a free forum! What could possibly be a real reason for not letting any one join? I am one to admit that I don't know every thing about all other car makes and some times I will try to join a forum just to get real answers to some questions that I may have about an issue I'm not familiar with. You all here are testament as to how I am in regards to other makes. I don't discriminate just because of brand or make, I may make a comment, but nothing that would discourage any one from making a choice of their own about a car. I joke from time to time, but I don't pass judgement. I just don't get it...
If any one has some knowledge on the quad 4 engine that GM made some time ago, please pm me or some thing. The issue I have is with the power steering on a 95 Grand Am. It has no power assist at all. Really stiff steering wheel. No turbulance in the reserv tank at the pump. The pump is driven by the intake cam on the oppisite side of the drive belts, on the head. I just don't want to steer my customer on to the wrong part when I'm not familiar with the steering system of this car. (he,he! I made a pun!) I know that the steering system on all cars share a similar function, but how they go about making that function is what I'm not too familiar with. It may be a bad steering gear (steering rack) or the pump itself. This system is similar to the Chrysler type steering rack that's on the fire wall as opposed to being lower and mounted at the subframe. Any help is accepted. Thanks

Not to sound like well.. a smartA but is there a chilton's repair manual for it? Or any manual and have you checked it?

I hear you. I am a bit leary of some aftermarket books, though. Chiltons and some others do have a lot of info on things, but there is no control on errors made on info and some times it's better to get info from people that know more than one self. I guess I wanted a quick and easy answer and I got their IQ (the finger) instead. Oh well. I got a diag procedure from one of my buddies that works at a GM dealership. It could be the cam that is broken, the pump itself or the tabs that are on the cam that make the pump turn. iI have to remove the bolts on the pump and move it a bit to see if there is damage or if the cam tabs move at all. In either case, wheather the cam or the tabs, if they are damaged in any way they will need a new cam. I hope not. That's expensive. I like my customers and don't want them to get too deep in debt for repairs. It is what it is, though. You can't beat fate if things don't go your way.
