Hey there everyone. I am looking to buy my first car soon and have need help choosing what to get. First off i love imports and i am into drifting alot also. I was looking at the 240sx (not sure what gen) or the rx7. I have a budget of about 20k. This would need to be my daily driver/ drift car so i want to be able to modify without losing drive ability. Thanks for any info and i am happy to answer any questions that may help you answer. Thanks, Cason

Ok, first car, your going to want fast. Am I right? If so, I would suggest depending on your location actually to get a skyline. For 20K you canget a skyline that can blow a corvette away! They are ALL right hand drive and ALL manual so if either one of those is not for you, I would recommend not getting one. Both the cars you listed above are fine, but to make them fast, your either going to need a lot of mechanical ablilty or a much bigger budget than you have.
I have seen some sick RX-7's with a corvette ls-7 engine in them. Those would be fine, but I have to warn you (in my opinion) they are the most unsafe cars on the road. Because to get the bigger engine into them, they literally have to cut it apart to be able to fit it in. Its a BIG engine. One of those with the engine already installed would run you about 18K.
Another AMAZING option would be to get a Subaru WRX STI. One of those are 4.4 0-60 out of the factory. Smoking fast. But is a 4 door. So I just dont know if thats something you would be interested in.
Another option that I didnt think that you might have thought about is either a G35 or a 350z. There basically about the same in parts under the hood, seeing that both are nissan one way or another. Theyre both fast, the G35 is leather and a 6 speed. Nice. More luxury in a sports car frame. Overall both are nice. I have a friend who just got a G35. Both are around 15K which would mean another 5 for upgrades. And BTW, the G35 comes with brembos on a lot of them. Dont know if its standard but most have it.
There are also many more cars, the 280zx, 300zx TT, Audi TT, Porsche Boxer S, Porsche 944, Porsche 928, VW Jetta VR6, and so many more. For 20K your options are almost limitless. Hell, you could even get a C6 corvette for that much. The sky's the limit, go out and test drive a few, see what you like and decide from there. No matter what cars anyone tells you are better, your the one that has to drive it everyday. Get something you liked (but listening to my suggestions wouldnt hurt

bro i kno im into drifting hard-core also. for a line...go to www.japaneseusedcars.com. GT25-TURBO is your best bet. the sti & TT are AWD the jetta is FWD. as far as a car that you dont have to mess with the **** united states government, S13 and S14's (98' look the best for the S14) are rly good drift cars becaus of there amazing balance, gen 2 rx-7's are also good, most datsun's, 300zx's are alright drift cars but there heavy, EA86 corrollas are one of the best starter drift cars, mazda miata's, older S12'S,

I know they have been used in drifting and i have experince with the engine(dad owned an 03) so that might be a good bet if its any good at drifting. Thanks for the info

yeah, he means 240sx, but get the r33. R34's arnt impossible but just damned expensive. but for drifting. Get a trans am, mustang ect. Stand out. Iv seen people selling 80's stangs with over 500 HP for 6-8K. You can do good drifting w/ 500 HP.

I think most are but I have seen them drifted before and where are you, and how far are you willing do drive to get your car? If your anywhere close to cali, then you are within reach. Theres boatloads in los angles. Just drive down there and buy one. Down there they can get as low as 8.5K-12K for a good one with 80-140K km. Yes. KM
And trust me, the drives worth it. I know someone who shipped it to NC and no regrets there. cali to NC! 3K miles!!!

Boatloads of Skylines in the Los Angeles for 8.5-12k? Good luck. Skylines aren't easy to find in California. They can't pass California emissions testing which makes them practically impossible to register in. Also last I heard the government has been cracking down and seizing a bunch of them up for various legal reasons.

**revised**
I take that previous statement and would like to revise it. I just went to craigslist again. Back in July, there were 22 different skylines in L.A. 18or so were about 15K or less. The others were new. Now I just checked again. There are 8. 6 of which are under 15K.
If you dont beleive me. Check for yourself. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/search/cta?query=skyline&catAbbreviation=cta&srchType=T&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max

I've lived in southern California for more then 20 years and in all that time I've only seen 1 Skyline. In fact, I've also lived in Orange County for the last 5 years and in that time I've never even seen one of those Kaizo Industries Skyline kitcars either.
You're Craigslist link? Infiniti G35s with Skyline badges are not really considered to be skylines. Also 2 of those ads aren't even for cars. 1 of them is for skyline taillights, and the other is for an rb25 engine. There are only 3 real skylines on there 2 of them are priced at a lot more then 15k, and that last one? It's only a GTST and I'm pretty sure there's something up with it because there is no way that the rb engine in it can pass emissions here. Its probably registered out of state or for offroad use only.
I have car enthusiasts friends who know people people with skylines, and they'll tell you they weren't easy to get and many of them aren't all that ready to tell you how they were able to do it. In fact, the first and only real Skyline I heard for sale was from a girl I knew who said her friend was selling his R32 for 30k. You said you knew someone who was able to get one from California and shipped to NC. I don't know you so I'm not doubting you. Maybe your friend got lucky. I don't know.
But like I said before, Skylines are not easy to find in California. Especially now that the government is cracking down on them, all of them including the kitcar ones made by Kaizo industries.

The thing is here in NC, the emissions are not quite well... I didnt even have to take an emissions test last time that I went to get my car inspected. They only did safety. I have seen 3 in the past year 1 R33, My friend's R34 and a brand new R35 GTR with a Florida plate. Its just different here than in cali.

Hey jching, Nissan did put out a Skyline with the Infinity badge. It was only for one year and it was on the G35 coupe platform. I was amazed that Nissan wouldn't put it out with the Nissan badge. But HEY, who am I to complain? LOL! I don't know how many they produced with the G35 body style, though. They may be knock offs of some sort or another. I don't think they made many legit G35 style Skylines.
