Now you see more VW's around especially in the import world. Why do you think people favor them over hondas and acuras.

Like Hondas and Acuras VWs are affordable vehicles with loads of aftermarket parts available for them.

Good point I also like affordibility and most of them you can buy with a stock turbo like the GTI. All you have to do after that is higher PSI and a little top end engine work.

I've already been doing work on VWs that shouldn't have issues till they get 30K on them. Looks and no durability... I don't see the lure. Those manufacturers that produce those types of cars can make a durable and good looking car and choose to only make them look good. Where's the R&D and QC? The Japanese have them beat in both those departments. I know that the Japanese companies have issues from time to time, but not so frequently as with domestic and european cars. The European cars are built so much better for their region of the world and we get stuck with what seems like the "left overs". Price and looks ain't every thing. Quality counts for 80% of the over all experience. The other 20% is looks and price.

I understand where you are coming from, I work at a Volkswagen dealer and I tend to always see new cars just sitting around collecting dust because of an engine problem or transmission problem. I know of a 09 VW Routan that was just bought about 3 months ago and the service guys had to rebuild the transmission.

Fords have similar issues, my brother. Over all, both VW and Ford have improved by leaps and bounds, but there's still the issue of quality and durability. They are durable to an extent, but when you have an issue that shouldn't be... leaks and electrical issues aren't a real issue with the Japanese cars. Don't get me wrong they exsist, but not nearly as bad as those two makers of cars. That's all I can say about that. I don't want to sound like a hater, because I don't hate the brands. I just tell it like I see it. Audi had issues back in the day, but they seem to be doing well. I can't really say that for sure as I haven't seen any first hand yet, but none of my people who own one seem to have any real issues. Then again, they haven't brought any issues to my attention. It's cool, though. As long as they are happy with their ride, I'm no one to give comments. You know? LOL!

Yeah we also sell audi and i don't nearly see as many audi as VW but they have came a long way from where they were. They also have stepped up with a fuel efficient TDI and even those are able to compare to a hybrid which is amazing. Also back to what I was saying before our sevice department only has 3 audi techs compared to 9 vw techs.

3 Audi techs to 9 VW techs...? That says a lot. My friend has a VR6 Passat and he's had all sorts of issues with sensors and electrical components all of which I've repaired. Over all, It's been a good car, but now the thing is eating oil like crazy. It takes 6 quarts of oil total and he goes through a quart or so a week. No leaks to mention, though. It's got to be going some where. VW does have cool looking rides as of late, but I'de rather stick with tried and true Japanese quality. I see what happens with the VWs and such. My Brother has a really nice 2002 Mercedes and even that has been a headache with sensors and stuff. All of which I fixed as well. I love the Mercedes brand, but not to own. My Toyota and Nissan have never given me issues. My little 200sx wil need a reseal if I plan to sell the CA20E engine. I have another one on a donar car that's in really good shape as well and that also will be sold to who ever wants it. I'm trying to save up for the RB26DETT I want to get. I have to start some where! LOL! Any way, I have no real issues with VW, Audi or Mercedes over all. I just prefer my Japanese cars. That's all.

Yeah I can understand that I don't know what it is but most problems they have is sensors and a misread by a sensor might make a car burn oil. Just like my car VW has a ram induction too and I've had a problem with that because if I'm driving down the road, especially in the fall, and a leaf gets sucked into my induction system and it triggers the sensor and then the check engine light comes on. I've had that problem 2 times. I think alot of japanese cars even though I've never owned one. I like pontiac alot and one reason is because my dad owned a 73' firebird fourmula 1 and he had it from the time he was 17 till he was 38, and he got into and accident. It's like you couldn't kill the car because even after flipping the car 3 times the engine still ran.

A 73 Firebird? that's when they made real cars with real metal. LOL! I used to have a 74 Buick Electra 225. I got it from an old couple who just couldn't drive it around any more. I paid them what they wanted, which was $1000.00. I drove the car/boat around for 4 years till it got stolen and wrapped around a wall end cap. It was a really nice ride, especially when I took long drives. There was nothing like it, except a Caddy, maybe. lol. Any way, I still like VWs, even if I'll never buy one for my self. It's all good.
