Thanks everyone who answered my what car should i get thread. I really apperciate it. I have pretty much decided to look at the 240sx. Anyhow which one is better:the s13 or s14 versions? And what should be done in order to drift well or what would help. Also this will have to be a daily driver so nothing too wild and i want it to look as nice as a drift car can. Like i said I have a budget of 20k for car and mods. I looked at swapping a rb26 or sr20 or maybe just lots of mods to the stock engine. But i guess my biggest question is s13 or s14 and what mods should i get. Thanks for any info. Cason

first of junk the KA24DE the motor is crap and slow. i like the RB26DETT/300ZX tranny but you prolly will need help with that. i preffer the S13 but its all about what look you preffer, the S14 is kinda rounded in the rear and...well you jus have to see one for yourself. and as for making it a drift car all that is needed is an lsd and drift spec suspension (serious modding comes after you get better)

S13...
do the S14 front-end conversion.
Get tein coilovers, you decide which one.
i say stay stock, once the engine calls quits, either rebuild for performance or do engine swap.
and upgrade to lsd.

I say keep the s13 or go crazy and get an s15. But you'd have to import it. Tough to do. As far as engine. Go LS7 Chevy V8 with a c6 corvette trans. Its going to take some cutting to get it to fit, but it is possible. iv seen it done.

Go there and read a little. its possible and will run your budget close to dry, but after is even faster than the corvette (in my oppinion) and will outdrift almost anything out there, but dont do that until your mor experienced at drifting cause thats only for the pro's little man. or hell, your probably as old as me LOL. But still. 500 hp in a 1200-1500 ricer is deadly if you dont know how to use it properly.

S13 conversion on a S13... *cough*(you should understand what i mean...it's crazy talk)
my opinion, s13 rear okay, s14 front end look better then s13 front end.
get your hands on the "Drift Bible".
will get you started quickly into practicing drift.
don't go crazy on the car, drifting is expensive.
you wear out your tire, suspensions, brakes, and engine/tranny more faster.
you don't need power to drift, believe me.
i recommend, just upgrading your cars reliability.
all aluminum radiator w/ higher resistant radiator cap (higher psi capacity)
switch to synthetic oil, add a oil cooler.
add cooling plates.
upgrade to 2piece slotted rotors, maybe better brakes.
and keep with maintainence.
screw, it, just get "drift bible" it'll give you all the info needed, so you don't get bad info from people.
also get the book called i think it was "drift: getting sideways"

PLus for what a Chevy engine weighs, you can build a RB26dett blown to a 3.0liter and get much more bang for the fun. The Japanese inline 6 engines weigh less than a comperable V8 made of aluminum. The things that have to be processed to make an aluminum engine sturdy makes it that much heavier. Besides, you can go wicked powerful with the RB swap and really drift to your hearts content. Keep it Nissan and do the RB swap. I'm not against the other swaps, but the RB is a easier fab than putting in a Chevy V8. The S14 front clip does look nicer than the S13... Sorry for my 2 cents worth on that.

ok s12. Ill agree, its much easier to do the RB swap, but i guess its my personal oppinion which makes me think that the v8 might be easier power for your money. I guess iv just seen too many rx-7's with vette engines for like 25 bodykit & painted. But for clippit, i will probobly agree. Stick nissan and silvia or s-15 is my oppinion. Theyre out there, and I know cause im going to look at one in mint cond. for 5.5k today.

Nice. I would have also suggested the V8 engine Nissan used for the Formula1 series in the late 90s and into the early 2000s. I think that's a wicked idea as well. 900lbft of torque and 1500hp of high rpm maddness! I drooled at that thought... LOL! I really don't think it was 1500hp, but they did run those engines for a bit and they were... AWSOME! 0-100mph in a single neck breaking, body crushing acceleration. GOD, I love that feeling! Toyota and Honda also made Formula1 engines. They were nothing to sneeze at either.

yeah, I love that acceleration too, the ones that throw you back in your seat so hard you shake afterwards. Theyre the best

The failure is layed on thick in here. If you want good coilovers Tein is not the answer. You want to look into things like Endura Tech, BC, Fortune, PBM. Tein has a high rate of failure.
Saying a KA series is slow and junk is kinda silly. They are pretty solid, I prefer a KA24E over the DE, but both are pretty stout motors capable of 300-400 RWHP on stock internals. I got a buddy who is making 1000+ HP on a KA24DE (fully built, 7 second 1/4 mile times)
NOw if you want a good set up for drifing your gonna have to shell out some coin. I would suggest joining a Nissan forum, browse some build threads, and see what others are doing and have done. Then save some cash and wait for a good deal.

No one said the KA engines were junk... at least I don't think so... You're right, though. The KA does have a good solid base for a build. It's an iron block and it can handle some abuse. The heads it comes with need to be swapped out for some thing more performance oriented, but over all it's still a good engine to build on. You're pretty much on point with the advice.

I think if i was going to get a 240 I would just keep the KA24E thats in the car. The RB26 would cost a lot to put in it and your really not gaining too much by putting a SR20 in to it. All that money use to swap the engine it to it you could use to build up the KA. Just like AzulTuning said you should put a lot of money in to the reliability of the car especially since you want to drift. Tires and cheap you know.

Like any thing, every thing has it's limits and you build or swap an engine based on what your needs are for the car. Depending on the event, be it drag, rally, D1, time attack, NASCAR... he,he, NASCAR. Too funny! Any way, the event determines the build and the need for a specific engine. Some engines do better than others for a specific event. AND, money makes the wheels go round... fast. LOL!
