Hi all,

I recently lost my baby (a 76 dodge D100 w/ a 440 and 727 torque flight) to an absent minded woman turning left across traffic. To get me moving again, I'm in the process of buying a 95 Honda LX with a vtec engine with 280k miles on it. Its a manual and it burns a little oil, but its a Honda, so I figure i should be able to squeeze a few more miles out of it before a major rebuild is required. Anyways, I have a few questions:

1) What engine does this car have? I'm pretty sure its a 1.5 and I know is a vtec but I'd like to know the name so I can do some more extensive research and I'm having trouble finding this info.

2) This car is ugly as sin, but im not much into the ricer scene and I dont care about looks, but I want a quick car. Is this engine/ car a good platform to tune some nice 1/4 mile times out of?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any responses.

Well, normally a LX wouldn't come with a VTEC stock. That's usually EX or higher, however considering you can tell that it's a VTEC just by looking at the block, i'm sure you're right. More then likely its a D16Z6 SOHC, with some money spent you can get a high to low 14s 1/4 mile out of it actually. Not sure if you want to spend the money if the car already has 280k on it though. Couldn't find forum rules so hope i am not breaking them by linking another site, but here's a good source for civic's http://www.procivic.com/ the site has a pretty cool feature on the side that allows you to look up your exact car and the specs on it if it was stock. You can google the engine picture to compare it to your's if you want to make sure. The only other vtec it could be would be a B16a DOHC, but that would definately have been a transfer

well its good if your not into ricers. do the civic clean and it wont be rice at all. anyways though, if its a 1.5 it cant be a d16. it would be a d15 and not have vtec... id look into what motor it has a bit closer

I would take a look at procivic.com, other then that i am not entirely sure. I didn't really put a whole lot of money into mine considiring it has about 195k on it, and am getting a new car in the spring. Heard about some site that has some huge database on honda parts at one point but i could never find it again. Think its called like the honda 3000 system or something like that...hopefully someone else will read read this that knows what i am thinking of.
