Okay so i have a 93 honda prelude with a jdm swapped h22a1 vtec engine and tranny with about 60k miles.  My problem is from time to time i will accelerate and it will not go... it will just lag like its fighting to go forward at all but within minutes sometimes it will run like a champ again.  My friends and i that are into tuners have all brainstormed about what could cause this and none of us have a clue.  i dont trust taking it to a shop bc i live in a small town in iowa and the only shops around here are worthless.  not to diss on mechanics trying to make a living but theyre pretty much just farmers changing oil.  im going to Western Iowa Tech starting this year and taking a two year Automotive mechanics program but thats not helping me with this now since im only going on what ive learned thru internet research.  any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  thanks for taking the time

take it out again and next time it happens try going about three quarters throttle. my 94 olds did that because at full throttle it made my car get to much gas so i had to tweak it a bit. still beat my friends ef with it doing that though

see the problem is that it does it no matter what my throttle position.  and it does this until i hit vtec, then the power from vtec is normal.  but thru all other rpms it lags when it does it.  it was doing it today for like 15 minutes and then ran fine the rest of the day again.

try changing the tps(throttle position sensor) it may have a short.
