240sx
I'm thinking of buying one myself
A friend of mine told me that somebody was offering him 2 240sx's for 12K and it already has engine mod's. The cars are already modified for drift.
The quickest way from point A to point B is by going 225mph

I'd choose the 300xz over the 240, especially if you're lucky enough to find a twin turbo.
SRT-4's are powerful and cheap, but expensive to maintain, so you'll probably end up paying more over a period of time than you might expect.
Aren't GTI's and R32(vw, not nissan) both FWD? If it's not a big deal to you then these aren't bad cars either. Easy to work with and basically the european equivalent of a Civic. Large aftermarket support and huge market base allows for tons of information and makes it a perfect starter car, but you may find it lacking in the power you're used to if you come from the offroad world(i'm assuming you mean dirt bikes or off road trucks, not rallying?)

The Stealth is the American cousin of the 3000gt, just more... American. LOL! Just kidding. The 300ZX is a good buy if you could find one in good shape. Where I live I haven't seen a 300ZX in good shape at all. I guess it's becuase most people here are into pick-ups and Jeeps mostly. The few that do have a sport car of any kind have Mustangs and Vettes. All the imports in my area lack any cojones to even mention, though they make enough noise to wake the dead. I think that my almost stock 1997 Rav4 with all its 180 thousand miles is faster than most of the imports in my area. LOL! It's funny, but you would have to see and hear them to understand. Do the 300ZX and build it up. You won't go wrong, but you will need to brush up on Nissan if you want to venture into the world of "HORSE POWER, NISMO STYLE"! LOL!

I would go with a 240sx or the 300zx. Toyota has a few good cars, but you have to actually love the brand. LOL! They do sorta have a grandma style to them. Not as of late, though. Try Lexus or Infinity! You might be able to find some thing in your price range in one of those models. You just have to shop around a bit. In case you don't know, Lexus is a Toyota product and Infinity is a Nissan product. It just means that there is more to choose from. LOL!
