Ok so i recently decided to to start adding performance parts to my 2001 4cyl 2.0 volkswagen jetta! Go me! The problem is that I really dont know much about it. I could really use some guidance as to where i can go to get good info as to where to get started. what sites/books or whatever i can get my hands on are going to break it down to the very basics so that i can get started on the right track?

your best bet is talk to people. what are you thinking of doing: suspension, motor, brakes...?

Ditto, on the response 2000Hcsi has. There are sites like EuroTuner or VDubb magazine sites. I would check out those sites. You may have to Google it or use your search bar. My friend has a Passat with a VR6 and finding parts for it is some what easy, but having the cash for the upgrades is another. You'll find stuff for your ride.

not really, its all about what you want to do. if you want a fast 1/4 mile car, do motor. if you want a fast track car, do bolt on motor upgrades and upgrade the sespension. if you want a "show car" do visuals. whatever you do though don't rice it out

Just remember that the performance of any bolt on stuff you do put on will only be as good as the engine build you do. Don't expect real gains of over 10 horses with just a few after market items. I know that Vw enthusiasts do a lot of things to their rides to get them to have 250hp+ on some of their older models. The new stuff out there is capable of more, but building the engine is key to real horse power. Aslo, a good tuning. LOL! And don't neglect your drive train. All that new power has to be translated to the wheels some how.
