I like the fact that you two are adult enough to come to an agreement. It says alot about the quality in your personalities. I'm proud to have you two as friends.
Keeping an open mind about the types of cars that would make sense for a build is not easy, but I think some people expect too much from a few bolt on items, quite frankly. I stick with the motto that "you build what you like". With that said, the only way to "build what you like" is to inform your self with the product you've chosen and see what real modifications can be made to achieve more horse power and torque. That would mean tearing down the engine, drive line and the such and start from scratch. The dude with the s13, for example, needs to look around at what's been done and educate him self on the stuff that is available to his ride. The internet is full, and I mean "REALLY FULL", of information. I've been doing this a long time, but when I get stuck or forget some thing I use the net and a few contacts to get things done.
LOL! For those that still might not know who has who in the auto industry, here's a small list. Correct me if I'm wrong or add to it if I missed some thing;
Honda= Acura
Toyota= Scion, Lexus, Daihatsu
Nissan= Infinity
Subaru (the KINGS of all wheel drive)= well... I'm not entirely sure they have any thing else. I could be wrong.
Suzuki= Geo (now defunct, owned by GM), Daewoo
Ford= Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda and some others that I can't remember from Europe. They sold Jaguar and Land Rover to TaTa motors of India.
GMC= Chevy, Buick, Hummer, Saab, Opel, cadillac (I think I spelled it wrong) I'm missing one or two more and I can't remember...
Chrysler= Plymouth, Dodge, Jeep (all of which will be owned by Fiat once they get their finances/take over agreement settled.
Feel free to add to this list. LOL! I don't know every thing.

its really their own fault though. if it had been about more than just making cars that last 5 years for as cheap as possible it would be different. eg cavaliers are called throw away cars. ever hear a japanese car called that?

I wouldn't buy a car from that company. Can you see some one in a car made by a company with a funny name like... TaTa? Yeah, I can see my self entering a dealership, looking around and then exclaim, "I'm going to do what your name implies, TaTa!" LOL! The name is the least of my reasons, though. More and more foreign companies are making good on saving these automobiles from extinction, but at what cost to us. Jaguar and Land Rover were sold by Ford for a reason. They were not viable enough to keep. Cudos to TaTa motors for taking on the challenge, but if I wasn't interested before when Ford had them, why would I be interested now. Plus, that country (INDIA) has to fix their slum issues and better their relations with their own poor before trying to look classy in front of the whole world. Example; A couple of the child stars from the movie "Slum Dog Millionaire" have no homes due to the fact that the homes they had in the "SLUM" were torn down to make way for a over pass walk way. The local government in their area can't even make good on changing the way things are in those types of communities. They have talented people with potential and they still live in relative poverty due to the idiot class distinction they live by. If any of you think it's bad here, go to India and wittness how the HIGH CLASS treat their own people. I think this world has some real issues that never seem to get better. Money makes and takes and those that make seem to take more from the ones who help them make it. Sooner or later there will be a real awakening and all those greedy people will have to pay for it. ie. GM, Ford, Chrysler, Pharmecudical, health insurance, wall street, etc., etc. It will all come around and bite them on their collective butts. Says I.

but you cant forget some great and/or not so great vehicles that US and Japan worked together to create. ie Chevy Luv/Isuzu Pup and the Dodge/mitsubishi Raider! Both trucks but they arent gas guzzlers. Ie F150, 1500z71, Ram1500, or perma capped brothers escape, tahoe, and durango.
