They get their names changed, depending on what country gets them. The Lexus 300sc is called the Saurer in Japan and it doesn't have the Lexus badge, it's Toyota. Infinity is also non-exsistant in most countries. Australia doesn't have Infinity.

Simple. More money. Think of how Ford, GM and Chrysler do it. Ford has Lincon and Mercury. Chrysler has Plymuoth, Dodge and GM has Pontiac, Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Hummer and a few others that I can't remember right now. Chrysler and Ford have others too, but that's not important to the subject. It's easy to make cars under a different badge and keep the essential body style, to some degree. It economics. Have you noticed that Oldsmobile is non exsistant? People were not buying them due to the Buick brand looking some what similar. I call that the COOKIE CUTTER EFFECT. That's also one of the many reasons that american cars are not doing as well as the Japanese cars. Toyota has Lexus and Scion and they really don't look all that similar, except for the one or two camry/Solaris looking ones. LOL! Besides that, the Japanese have made good on originality.
