ok i have a 1997 dodge avenger with a 5-speed manual tranny, but i need a short shift kit. I checked and my tranny is made by Mitsu. i was hoping someone could tell me if i could buy a short shift kit for an eclipse with the same tranny... would this work? the sticker under the hood on the firewall say the tranny number is F5MC1. any help would be awesome!!!!

I don't think the body from an Eclipse is similar in design to your Avenger where the shifter goes through. There may be linkages and stuff that need to be adapted so that it can work. They may use the same trans but it may have been adapted to fit in the Avenger. You know? It's not like the Mazda Tribute and the Ford Escape. Those two are the same vehicle with different badges. I would look into how similar, if at all, they are to each other before going crazy.
How you drive is your buisness. Remember that you're not the only one on the road!

i dont think the eclipse and the avenger are similar enough either. you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one for your car. they tend to be fairly popular

the shifter mechanism is exactly the same for a 2g eclipse non-turbo 5-speed. trust me I have done numerous conversions, both fwd, and awd. you can use a B&M shifter from a 2g with great results, or a knock off from ebay (but I do not condone the use of knock offs because it only hurts the community when you buy cheap stuff that will probably break anyway!)
