Hey guys, just a question! Heard a lot about putting turbo's in cars. I kind of get the gist of what it does... Faster! Just wondering what exactly they do? Gives it more hp? How much more? Just looking for some information, thanks a lot!

Turbos work on exhaust. The size and style,in this case- angle, of the empeller blades (fan) inside the turbo housing will depend on how fast or efficient the turbo will do its job of using that exhuast to help suck in more fresh air from the other side of the turbo. The fresh air side also has an empeller that works as eficiently as the design of the blades permit. Todays after market turbos are a techs dream compared to earlier models from the 80s and early to mid 90s. Now a lot of them are computer controlled and have far better spool up time. Some are made with ball bearings in the empeller shaft assembly for even greater spool up times! The faster the spool up the quicker the response the engine gets to use that hp. Earlier models of turbos had a condition known as "turbo lag". It was a term used to describe the time it took the turbo to work its magic compared to the throttle response. That condition is almost non-exsistant now. With greater power come greater engine builds. I say that because people always seem to slap one on with out building up the engine and when things start to fail they complain. I hope I didn't bore you with that short lamens term description on turbos. I didn't mention a a lot of things in there. I meant to keep it as short and understandable for you as possible. Super Street show cased a Skyline with over 1,000hp on a rb26 engine platform that had turbos. Check it out on the site. I have to find the issue but I know that it exsists.
