ok so i have a slight problem. i bought a civic and it already had the wiring for the sub run. it was kinda sketchy and the rca wire went into some stupid harness. the cable into the harness had a black one and a white one and it has to go into a black one and red one but ive never seen a white cable go into a red one. anyone got any ideas?

It sounds like it could be the remote wire to initiate the amp when you turn on the radio. Some really good kits have it built right in with the set. If in doubt, get your own wire kit and re-do the system. Make sure your ground is the same size wire as the power wire. And any thing over 500watts will require a wire bigger than 8gauge, as well as the ground. also keep in mind that if your power wire is near the cars original wire harnesses that it will give you static. And keep speaker wire away from power wires too. Static issues. Recheck all your grounds and if possible clean and/or replace any corroded ground wires. Remove battery terminals and clean the posts and terminals even if they look good visually. Connectivity is key. If any thing, it will keep your electrical system up to par and keeps your alternator from working too hard. Electrical resistance is what kills alternators and any kind of corrosion in the system will do that. It sounds like over kill but it's well worth the effort to keep things clean.
Oh, and any thing over 500watts will require some type of capacitor. Or you could invest in relooming your alternator to put out 130amps, regulated.
If I'm overstimulating your senses, I'm sorry.

I diagnose automotive electrical systems on the side when dealers have problems diagnosing. I'm sorta' like the last resort for some. Some times it takes me days to find a problem in the system but find them I do.

The kits only cost around $25.00 to $30.00. It won't break you if you have to rewire the system. All you would have to do is remove the carpeting to have better access for running the wires the right way. As far as the head unit, make sure it's hooked up correctly and if it's not, follow the schematic on the bottom of the radio. They all come with a basic schematic of what wire is what on the radio harness. For the cars wiring harness it's not that easy but not that difficult either. With a volt meter or test light, volt meter preffered, and the key in the off position, find the constant battery voltage wire, it should read 12.5v, and hook up the wire on the radio that reffers to that wire. Do the same for the accesory wire but with the key in the accesory position and test it on the run position to see if the power goes out on it. You don't want to have an extra draw on the battery when starting. Your radio must go off, like every thing else on the cars system when cranking the engine. Once you isolate that wire hook up the ground wire, which is black on some models or black with a white line on others. I think that Honda uses a black wire. The remote wire, or "antenna wire" on some radios, will go straight back to the amps remote connector. If you need help with that, I'm more than willing to be there for you. That's what we're all here for. Right? PM me so that I can give you a number to call me. If you're comfortable with that, that is.
Almost forgot. Don't forget to see if they istalled the right amperage fuse too. The fuse used will depend on how powerful of a system is being used. Any thing over 1000 watts will require a circuit breaker and a 60 to 100 amp fuse. It's a lot to absorb but I'm here for you.

ya ive wired a couple decks before and have the fuse in there already i just was hoping to do it all in one go as last time i ran the wires one time, stuck the adaptor for the deck in another time, wired in the deck another and so on and it was a pain to keep ripping it apart when i had to get it back together to drive. im just being lazy. my friend is gonna check all the wires for me later this week to make sure it is the remote wire not the amp(i lent my brother my amp and im hoping he didn't blow it)

When it comes to family and your belongings... PRAY! I got my Rav4 back from my brother this weekend and I finally got a chance today at work to balance my wheels and, LO AND BEHOLD, all my wheels are warped. Now I have to get new wheels, unless there's a place that can straighten them out... Time to look around...!
Good luck with the system.
