if anyone has read my threads so far..you'll know that im pretty new to tuning but im extremely eager to get my car and start tuning...

ive seen that a lot of tuners mention that they purchased their cars at car auctions where they got them for cheap..is there a website for scheduled auctions or are they held at specific places?
any help is great

*** how did you guys (tuners) learn so much about cars?...besides reading magazines, did you guys work in shops or just learn as you go??

carauctions.com or try going to your local police station to see when they have their auctions. It's just a matter of when and where. I purchased a 77" Malibu 2 door for $800.00 that was in mint condition, except for the blown engine. I found a small block and did some rebuilding with performance parts. I replaced the transmission with a performance one and had a performance exhaust installed also and... !"VIOALA"! I got a nice 325whp Malibu. I refreshed the paint and installed some old school muscle car weheels with Firestone comp tires and it became a nice ride for under $5,000.00 of time and effort. I had the car for 6 reliable years before selling it to a guy From upstate Maine. He was a buddy of mine that moved up there and needed a good car. I was into imports and , therefore, sold it to him. I do miss the car from time to time.

I checked it, too. Pretty cool site. I ordered a couple DVDs.
Hey evolution91, to answer your question from before on how we all know so much... Some of us, like me, are techs and have general experience with all models. It helps to have that. Some others have specific model experience and can answer more precise questions about a quirk or specific issue regarding the model they work with. In all, every one has a gift that has been honed over the years. I've been a tech for 22 years. I do all sorts of work on all types of cars. But even if I do all that I do, I don't know every thing. No one tech does. That's why a lot of guys go on forums like this. It's a good collection of know how all rolled up in one neat package. We all have our way or method of getting to a fix but we all want the same thing, to help and keep the life style alive and well. I've grown to like this site, as well as a few others that I visit. Make friends and there is nothing that you can't learn from them. Think of us as a library of free info. The friends will come as you go, as I've found out. TheHormone is one of them. He's very cool people. He's educated me on a few things as well.

That's awsome. I'm still finding time to go and get a copy. All I seem to do, now a days, is fix things around the house that my kids destroy and do side jobs to get things for my 97" Rav4. I'm trying to save up for a Cusco front strut bar that I found online on a web site called "jazzproparts.com". I've looked every where and they were the only ones that had the product I wanted. I'm prioritising what I need over what I want, right now. The videos will be around, but parts for my Rav are becoming very limited the more time I waste waiting. I had a tough time finding a lowering kit for it as well, but I found it. It'll be some time before I can do what I want as opposed to what I need to do. Such is life...
