I have a 98 Mustang GT with about 115,000 miles on it.  Is it worth tuning or should i find a new engine? if so where can i find another gt engine?

The 4.6 is a strong engine if you take care of it, and if the compression is still good then yea it is worth tuning. get true duals with flowmaster 40s, downpipes under the middle of the car, cut the cats, put a CAI and get a tuner for the engine. just that will make you kick ass and take names, if you got the 5 speed. how much money are you looking to spend on it though?

if you want a new engine, look in a jegs magazine if you want a brand new crate engine. and id go all the way and get a new 5.0 block and drop it in your 98. or even a 351 windsor. youll be burnin as much rubber on the street as you will be in bed!

I know, i know, im one sexy dude!

Well i dont have alot of cash and i went to look at the 5.0 and 15 grand is a little outta my limit right now.  How do i restore that compression.  I have seen something you mix with ur engine oil and it restores it.  DO you know if it works?

It actually is called RESTORE. LOL! Funny. It works pretty good for every day driving. Ther is a 4cyl, 6cyl, and a 8cyl formula so pick the one that suits you. Your fist dose should be a two shot of the 8cyl. formula to get things flowing. Go 3thousand miles, change the oil again and then just use one can of the 8cyl formula. After that use it every other oil change. With the mileage you have DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC oils. It flows too easy and by passes rings and valve seals and any other seal that needs to seal. Valvoline makes oil for high mileage cars. It works too and it's cheaper than synthetic. Use RESTORE once every other oil change if the compression is some what low. If it's really bad then may be a refresh is in order. When I say "refresh" I mean rebuild it. Sorry, that costs some money too. But it's well worth it in the end espeacialy if you plan on keeping it for a while. I curently work at a Ford dealer and see low compression symptoms a lot on older cars with high mileage. RESTORE is an easy way out but it will only get you but so far. It's some thing to think about.

You're looking at around 1,500 to 2,500 for a decent rebuild. Depending on what needs to be reused and/or put in as new. Like I said, it's not cheap but it's well worth it. Some shops are lower than others and not all will do what every one else is doing for the money being paid so talk with the people you plan on using and shop around. You get what you pay for. Damned Murphy's Law! LOL! See what they will actually do for the money you are willing to pay. Be careful not to offend the tech with bartering his services. Some may get upset and not want to deal with you and some will be d!ck$ and give you minimal stuff for the money.

Baby it. You'll be surprised how much it will be worth, when the time comes. Muscle cars are becoming pleasures for the rich. I saw a 1968 GTO, once, go for $150,000. I think it was original and with only one owner. It had some history to it as well but I'm not sure. I'm trying to pursue a 49 Mercury custom. Hard to find in my area. I may have to travel to find one.

Well the previous owner of the car had not taken very good care of the car so when i got it the engine needed to be tuned and new tires and it has a crack in the front bumper from hitting a curb so i think this car is just gonna become something i pass on to someone when the time comes.  As for now i wanna make it fast, real fast.  For track purposes of course

You can tune it but the 4.6 motor is trash compared to the 5.0 easier and cheaper to build easier to find parts, also  dont get flowmasters they have no real value to your car other than sound, i would go with borla, magna or my favorite SLP

ooooohhh! SLPs, huh? Nice! I'de do the 5.0 too and get rid of the 4.6, especially if you're going to race it. Remember that $$$ makes power. You get what you pay for.
