it wouldn't be problems with the automatic trans, the only problem i can think of is that with an auto trans u won't be able to take off as fast as with a manual trans but other than that there shouldn't be any problem.

I have had conversations about auto trans in races so I'll try to be of help. First off, wave to the future, auto transmissions can be made to perform, they actually provide a serious advantage in bracket racing where its expressly important for consecutive shifting. Proof of this would be the new Evo X, The sport package comes with an Automatic trans! The second half of my post goes out to the Manual, The manual trans, quite simple give you more control of the car, for example, In drifting, a race style where control of the car is something beyond ordonary understanding in my opinion, an auto trans would not be usable, manual is the only way to go here. further more, manual Transmissions have been tried and true for over 40 years, and , being a mechanic i have first hand knowledge of this Proverb, "if something is not broken, don't fix it"

I guess what I'm saying is this. It really depends on what you want to do with your car in the long run, just think about whatr your car and you will go thru  while you drive it. Daily driver? long rides? Burnouts?

its definately not a problem, in fact a friend of mine is currently working on converting his 88 dx into a manual. best idea would be to do what he did and get a donor car(eg he found a 90 si that was gutted for autocross) that has what you need and hopefully not much else cause that will help the price
