It really has to do with the brand's community and just plain old brand loyalty. Chevy guys typically can't stand Ford guys and vice versa, the same thing exists in the import community.
I'm from the Scion community, and my first "tuner" car is my Scion tC, before that I just drove whatever could get me to school. I love the Scion scene. Everyone's like one big family, and even when we hang out with cars from other manufacturer's, we all still get along. Mostly because Scion owners were at one time, honda, nissan, mitsubishi, etc, drivers.
But when I look at the Honda scene, those cats don't even like themselves! I went with a buddy of mine to an EF meet, and dude's were just clownin' each other. I don't get the whole JDM thing myself, but some of those guys held the JDM-ness of a civic to such a high standard, that it seemed like they weren't even enjoying the meet, much less other cars.
I appreciate a quality ride no matter who makes, and I think it's because my brand's scene is just like that in general. Had I been a Honda fan since day one, I'd probably feel differently.

It's like being in a pond with Chinese Fighting Fish, ( the Beta, for those that don't know.). We're all tuners, in one way or another. All of us; the muscle car guys the import guys, the hobbyist, etc. Why is it so hard? I have no problems with any other brand or the guy/girl who has it. It's a view into ones personality to me. Isn't that more important, your work and effort, that is, rather than your loyalty to the brand? I respect that virtue of the car and the person. Yeah, it sounds corny but I'm being real.

I get a little deep some times.LOL! But it does seem that all the brand hatin is driving a wedge into the real reason we become tuners and builders and life style makers. You know? I go to car show offs at certain restaurants durring the summer in Danbury, Darien, Bridgeport, Stratford, Shelton, Ansonia... All the places usually have little mock car shows and stuff that are just done up at the spur of the moment or organized by the local car clubs. It's nothing big but I always stop in at where ever it's held and just walk around happy. I see all the works of art on wheels, both import and domestic. It's a plethora of shiny paint and hard work that was put into those cars. To me that's where I respect and put the car on its respective pedistal. Admiration is all I have when I see a car done up like art. Even a well built ricer car is respected as long as it's not over done.

Something happened to me the other day. I was driving along and a guy in a dodge stratus with a wing so large I thought the trunk was open, waved at me. I didn't know what to do. by the time I thought to wave back he was gone. So I've decided to wave at every tuner I see from now on. Jeep guys do it. Scion guys do it. Bimmer guys do it. Why can't we? Just to make this clear, anyone who loves their car gets a wave from me, Muscle, tuner, rice, jeep, bimmer, scion, even the the VDUB guys. I will show my respect to my people with a simple wave, because in the end we are all the same.

PREACH ON, brother! LOL! I joke but it's in good clean fun. I do the same thing when I see people in nice clean cars. When I first installed my BOMZ short cold air intake and the 700cc mist injectors into my Rav4 the noise it made on acceleration drew some attention. All injectors shoot a mist of fuel, I just like the way it reads when I put MIST down.LOL. The Bosal BRO SPEED cat back exhaust didn't help at all either. Those that got to know me for that noise wave at me all the time and they don't own imports. It's all good in the neighborhood! If any thing good comes out of this thread of mine, I'm happy to have started it. TheHormone makes me laugh good! I like your spunk! Dang, I soound like I'm old! SPUNK? lol! Keep it coming, holmes, it's all good! lol! I know what you mean by that.

There is a difference between rice and imports. Ive seen ricey Domestic cars. Hell I've seen Chinese writing on Cavaliers. Imports are imports.

Yeah... I'll have to agree with TheHormone there... I don't hate domestics but it does seem that every one who owns one, and fixes it up, is trying to emulate an import in some way or another. Every car has its respective style and people should fix up according to that style. Domestics with a sliver of import just doesn't match. Just like that mid 80s Crown Vic that I saw with a formula 1 wing on it... And how does the wing make it fast? LOL! The last time I saw it, on the fly, it was sporting a front spoiler dam. LOL! WOW! Talk about lost in translation...

There are a lot of rediculous cars in my area. most are just people with run-down rust boxes with stereos that cost 3 times as much as the car is worth. But others really stick with me. There's a white avenger with 20's and a giant transformers logo on the hood. A CRX with the driver side painted flat black and the passenger side painted silver but all the paint is on top of tape covering rust. And it only has one aluminum rim. He drives it like it could beat a ferrari. I actually had a 95 lumina that I put a giant hood scoop on as a joke. I bought the scoop for my 66 mustang but I sold the car before the scoop went on. So one day I figured, What the hell, I need some fiberglass practice anyway. It turned heads thats for sure. Here is a pic. Just remember it was a joke. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/show_image.pl?bg=FFFFFF&image=http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/3056000-3056999/3056438_10_full.jpg[/img]
