I'm 18 and i have a 2001 Civic. I have a steady job, but not so much money. Any ideas on a good motor i should get for an engine swap?

You gotta do some leg work your self and see what's popular. Alot of mags can help and also car specific forums are a good source. Every body in the Honda world can help you there as well. My oppinion? Any V-Tech engine from the same year or newer. It's some work but well worth it.

I'm pretty sure you can fit a K20 engine in there from a RSX or the new SI. I heard of a guy putting one in a 2002 model.

The new Si motor is a poor choice because it is drive by wire. The RSX K20 motor will work. Plenty of people have done it.

To be honest, you're better off just buying a faster car. I used to have a 2001 Civic EX. It was a great daily driver, but not really built for tuning.

What kind of car would you recommend? I've been looking at maybe an RSX-s, but I'm really open to anything.

What do you want to do with the car? Is it a daily driver? Do you plan on putting the power to good use? If you're just starting out, I'd suggest the RSX-S because it's god a ton of aftermarket support, and is FWD so you can learn on it. If you feel more confident, you can pick up a used AP1 S2000 for almost the same price(~15k). It's RWD and a bit faster, but definitely more of a drivers car. The main problem is that it's a convertible, so the chassis isn't as stiff as it could be, but is easily remedied. It all depends on what you plan on doing. You may want to consider a Z, which can also be had for ~15k if you don't mind having an older one. It's obviously more powerful than the s2k, but is considerably heavier. Each one is completely different and can serve a different purpose.

You could always keep the civic for a daily, and buy a beat up older car like a CRX, EG, EK, 240, or an older datsun and tune it. Tuning older cars is slightly cheaper and parts can be had at your local scrap yard, and many cars have parts that can be swapped. For example, it's very popular to throw 5-lug hubs with brakes from the 300zx onto the 240sx. It's a big step up, and it's extremely cheap if you can find a totalled zx at a junkyard.

This may sound like blasphemy, but if you don't plan on taking it to the race track, and want lots of straight line power, you can always pick up an old muscle car. Superstreet isn't the only resource, you can always check out our other sister publications like eurotuner, sport compact, mustang monthly, etc.

Yup a k20 would be just fine for daily use and some Hp. I got a ek with a k20 swap and had 350 HP before modifications.

That's very dramatic, ek-tech. I'm guessing that you had a lot of internals beefed up for those kinda numbers... It must of cost you some dough at the machine shop.

350 hp before modifications sounds wrong. Did you mean after modifications?

The stock K20Z engine puts out about 180-185hp stock depending on the dyno and engine used. The K20A engine puts out a little less than that.

That's why I wrote it it the way I did. Not doubting completely, I'm just trying to get the math right.

I would recommend a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 MR.
It's got 276 hp.

Speeding.Yogi, I'm not trying to be your enemy but you didn't pay attention to what Aniketos13 said... He has a HONDA and he doesn't have a lot of MONEY... I guess that at 14 every thing comes easy? Your parents must spoil you ruthlessly.  Every body that asks for advice will get a real answer from some one that is paying attention. If you read all the posts you would see that all weak advice gets bypassed. Your young and you need to get more experience before giving this type of advice. If you think that I'm wrong about my coming down on you then why would you advise Aniketos13 with an EVO8 when the guy clearly stated what he wanted and where he was on finances? I'm in no way saying that you're dumb. I'm just saying that you need more experience with cars before advising. There are a lot of guys on here with experience that would agree. Sorry, I hope you don't take this personally.
