i am in love with the gran am body style and look, body kits for it look really nice too. the interior and inside is really quite nice too but when it comes to the engine, electronics, and just the guts of the car. they suck a bag of dicks. i want to use the grand am body style on a imported car and tune it up to perfection. i know its going to take alot of work and stuff but if anyone knows what kind of other car i could use that would be awesome sauce. thanks.

Let me get this clear so that I'm not misunderstanding you. You want to install an import engine into a Pontiac Grand Am? It's different and extremely hard, as far as the electronics is concerned. Not impossible, mind you. Where there is a will there is a way. A SR20DET would be a more convenient swap... for the size and relative space in the Grand Am engine bay. Fabricating mounts would be a relatively easy thing to do for a good imaginative welder. The drive line would have to stay with a frond drive system, assuming you want to make it a rear drive, which requires a lot more work. Again, not impossible, just a lot of work. Now we swing right back to the electronics... You have to have a good understanding of what engine you want to use and the electronics that will be in use when you rewire the Grand Ams system to what ever import engine yoo use. The emissions also must be in working order if you plan on having it as your daily driver. Check with your local DMV to see what's allowed for a swap, though. It will vary from state to state. The PCM must see the engine for the emissions machine to verify that the emissions is working properly. All sensors are checked digitaly through the emissions machine to determine a good code. If you vin and engine specs don't match you might get a non-compliant code from the emissions machine. A real good tech who's done similar swaps will guide you in that department, though. It is a hard project, but not impossible. Money will determine how well it's done, so plan on spending a pretty penny for this project. Good luck!

I wrote you in the pm link, bud. I can only guide you so far, unfortunately. You have to hook physically up with some people that will help you along the way. conversing on the net will only get you so far, but I will help where I can. I'm not familiar with Canada emissions laws, so forgive my ignorance when giving you info on that subject. I would look into it, though, just in case there is some thing that you can't do. You know? I met my neighbors brother inlaw this past weekend. I know you don't know him but he's from up in your area. Small world, isn't it?
