Dont get me wrong, I like imports, I own an 88 Celica, and id like a CRX or 240SX. I just find no logic in the whole hp/liter argument. I brought up Top Fuel motors just to illustrate the point. I know they are no where near a street engine, most dont even have water jackets in them. But the fact that they can build 8-10,000 hp would seem to put this whole Hp/liter and technology argument to an end. If you look at it simply, these motors are just as simple as they where over 30 years ago, so how arethey so powerful? Expierence. That is why people still build old cars. Theres no computers to deal with, no worrying about if your part combination will work. But people are still pushing the limits of these older engines. Car Craft has built a 500hp NA 350 Chevy, for under 6k. The "technology" isnt just getting better in Japan folks.

As for daily drivers, Car Crafts new thing is turbo motors, and have featured a few very fast, V8 turbocharged, and carbed cars recently. There was a 1968 Camaro that rans 8s in the quarter thanks to a big-block and a pair of turbos. It was street legal, but he had to turn the boost down to run pump gas. Also Hot Rod magazine has an annual competition for the "Fastest Street Legal Car" its more like the fastest street legal muscle car contest, but whatever. Many of those cars run 8-10 sec quarters, and are daily drivers.

Basically, I think the reason old V8s are seen as "technologically inferior" is because you dont need EFI and a power adder with hours and hours of tuning to make an old V8 make alot of power. All that stuff will only make it obscenely fast. 4 and 6 cylinders can make the same power, to a point. I havent seen a 4 or 6 cylinder making much over 1000hp in a "street car", and that was really pushing the boundaries of the motor. I have seen a normally aspirated 540, which is like 8 liters, making 1000hp, with ridiculous torque, on pump gas.

Oh yeah, as for my V8, im putting together a 1978 Firebird. With a 350 running 9:1 compression, mildly upgraded heads (larger valves, a little porting), a large cam and a good exhaust I expect to make 375hp, and thats a pretty conservitave estimate. With a total investment of 5k in the car, I expect mid 12 sec quarters. Yes it will be ugly, the radio will suck too, but it will be a dirt cheap, easy to drive, fast car.

and if i remember correctly the muscle car in 2fast 2furious was beaten by an evo, and the one in the fast and the furious by a supra. so you obviously think that every car thats isnt dumbestic is a civic. I have all the respect for OLD american muscle. but starting in the 80s, the american companies went downhil superfast.

We also have to take into consideration in 2f2f durring the race with the two non-Canadian made old f-body vs. the two imports which were pretty much made by American used Nitrious and the other two had to cheat and they still lost.  Also, it's not always the car that wins a race.  A lot of a race depends on the driver.

You know that '2F2F' was a movie right? Im not even going into that, but for the record, the 1969 Camaro used in that movie was a reproduction of a stock car. Basically a Camaro that was ordered with a bad ass Corvette motor. The EVO was supposedly heavily modified, but its a movie.  

Speaking of 2f2f have you seen the movie "Terminator 2".  Somone one told me they used pretend robots in the movie so I gues they were not real.
