Simply put... "COMPETITION".
Every one who sells a product wants your money and buisness. That's why it's so important to shop around and get as much pertinent information on a particular product or brand. How much you spend on an item determines the quality of it, but not always. If you can get the same exact item on another site for less, then, that's when price matching comes into play. A lot of companies will price match or even beat it by a small percentage. In the end, you win. It's the nature of the buisness beast. It is a little frustrating but if there wasn't a hint competition there wouldn't be price differences that would, ultimately, benefit us... the consumer.

bartusek has got you on the right track... the internet has all that you might think of. Just type away and let your fingers do the walking.
As far as the actual hands on and/or labor through a good shop with good techs...? You will have to get your self aquainted with a good fabricator and see what it will cost you to get a lot of the much needed mods done. Swaps from the same make are one thing. What you want to do will require a lot of know how and patience, not to mention a lot of one off custom mods to accept the import engine in the configuration that you choose.
You might want to consider how badly you really want this. It is an extreme amount of work and know how. If money is not an issue, then, by all means get to know folks that do this type of work and let them do what you can't. The more heads on the project the better it is for you.

you might concider finding an nx2000 and swaping it over...after all it is an sr20 and that comes with a pretty wide range of parts...
