ok so im gonna be 17 and after the winter im allowed to get a new car im gonna work as much as i can so i can get something good still has to be used though parents are gonna help pay too
so i was wondering on your opinions of what car i chould start with, has to be relativly cheap so i can buy some more mods and other things i need for it.
im liking an wrx or evo or IS 300 but i could always get something else

If your just starting out an Impreza or Evo will get you good power and handling without having to do much of anything to them. An IS 300 has some good get up and go to it as well. I can recommend others too if you can tell me a bit more about what you're looking for in a ride and what you want to accomplish with it.

well im hoping to have this car through my college years and im prob going to go to a tech school to learn more about them
i prob cant spend too much money for parts mostly because its have to pay even more for someone to put it in for me.
id like a manual and kind of any car that has alot of extra parts to put into it. it has to look good too lol, as in finding a good body kit spoiler combo.
the 98-99 eclipse series all look good in that sort of way

Well for the Japanese side of things I would recommend the Eclipse, Impreza, Evo, Civic's and Celica's are also very easy to modify and will look good if it's done right. The Mazda 3 and RX-8's are also pretty easy to customize. On the U.S. side of things I highly suggest the Dodge SRT-4 or the Chevy Cobalt SS. I know for fact that the Cobalt SS comes only in manual transmission and comes supercharged. Unless you're getting a Mustang, stay away from Ford. For the European side, the VW Golf R32 is a good high performance model to start with. Most of the older ones already come from the factory with 4wd, Manual, and a pretty well tuned engine and exhaust. The VW New Beetle RSI is another good one. If I remember right they are 4wd, turbocharged, custom exhaust, and already come with a good body kit and spoiler as well as some decent rims. The Audi TT Quattro Coupe is also a good platform to build on, but is a bit on the pricey side. I can recommend more models if you'd like me to, I have had a lot of chances to drive a lot of things in my 30 years.

i never really though of a mazda 3 as being a tuner type car. the cobalt ss is a good idea too. i dont see many of them around new jersey lol. i just read up on the cobalt ss and its pretty nice. with good mpg ive always had a thing for the srt4 also. what would be some good things to put in the cobalt ss i was thinking : -cold air intake -exhaust
i dont know much else actually

You need to realise that real tuning takes money and if you're going to college you may find your self more strapped than not. You're only 17 and you still need to learn how to drive effectively before thinking about tuning some thing to go faster. Get a beater car first, drive in it till you feel confident in your handling skills and then, and only then, can you think of a tuner car. I only say that cause I've seen too many deaths, over the years, due to poor quality driving habits. When you lose control of you car at 25mph, how do you learn to regain control of it? And losing control at 75mph takes completely different skills behind the wheel than at 25mph. Young minds are influenced much easier, than not, when friends in the same car are involved. I was young too, at one time, so don't take my advice lightly, please. At 40, you tend to see things a little differently. And to keep it in perspective for you... I lost a child, once, to a speeding car with a 18 year old behind the wheel of a Supra. I survived the crash, as did the 18 year old driving the Supra... the 3 year old girl didn't...

When it comes to the Cobalt SS or SRT-4 you don't really need to do much except maybe the intake and exhaust. They come pretty well equipped and the Cobalt is supercharged so you're set for extra power. But keep in mind you're still only 17 and don't go wild in it as soon as you get it. Get used to how it handles first before opening up the throttle all the way. You gan upgrade the stock plugs and wires if you want, but it's not really a necessity.

Oh and listen to Blackmonkey. I have found him to be quite wise. Don't let your friends influence how you drive and egg you on to go faster than you can handle. It's your hands on the wheel, you control the passengers.

Amen to that greyfox, personally what i think you should look for in your first car is simple, What you want, and it also helps to think what you will do in your car, like if you deliver pizzas, prolly want a car with good gas mpg, but then again thats just my take on things

Definitely take in to consideration your needs, what you want out of the car, and also how long you want to keep it. So for example if the Cobalt SS is something that meets your needs, looks and drives like you want, and is something you want to keep around for several years, then by all means get it. If a car doesn't meet your criteria even in the slightest then don't get it. Take it from me, life goes by to fast to be stuck in something you hate. I know from experience.

I like the Cobalt. It actually is a good car to start with. The improvements made to it since it came out are quite impressive. And it looks good. Maybe I should consider one and park my Rav4 for a while... I'm pressed for money as is the rest of America. I'm not doin' that any time soon. GM performance has some things you might want to look into if you decide on that. Get driving skills first and decide on what you want based on that. And fuel economy, too.

I know the 2008 model of Cobalt is turbocharged. I myself prefer supercharging, so I would go for the 05-06 model. I'm not at all saying supercharging is better than turbocharging, supercharging just happens to fit the way I drive better.

if you wanna drive fast or have a "Toy" go for the evo! lot of car enthusiast customize their evolution, evry detail of it can be fun! enjoy! drive safe dude!

One car that I had a lot of fun working on and tear assing around in was this 2004 VW New Beetle Turbo. It handled great, looked good, nice amount of acceleration. If I had had more time with it before I got married I would have eventually converted it to a supercharger.
But then again I've always been into the cars that didn't quite fit into the mainstream, the sleepers. The first thing I toyed around with was a 1975 Dodge Dart. I originally learned to drive and race around in my friends old Datsun 280Z.

i was planing on working through college to buy parts and have family help buy the car.
and yeah i would keep the car for a while
