1981 Mercury Zephyr Replacement Enginge Question

I want to replace the engine and I wanted to know if a chevy 454 or 400 would fit in and what type. I want something powerful. I need specs. Thanks help would be appreciated.

Don't have all the specs on the car, But I won't flame ya like most.. I think a 350 would be a better fit off the cuff. But like I said..It's a bit of a guess.

I would get the man for it from Mercury and get the specifics on the engine bay dems. I'm poor like you bro, but it will help out quiet a ***

But keep in mind. If you are going to swap the motor, you are most likely looking @ swapping the drive train and rear end as well.

Not many Zephyrs have been built to suite. Sorta like the crap design Ford did on the 1980 T-Bird. Some body at Ford musta' been drunk when they designed the body for that model. And as far as far as quality was concerned, it was virtually nonexsistent. You shuld consider a newr model Ford product, say... 1990 and up, and take it from there. Mustangs are a hot commodity, though, the fuel costs on one is pretty high. The Zephyr doesn't fall behind on that subject, either. Go import os just get some thing with a little more reliability and better fuel economy. It's just a little friendly advice from an older dude in his early 40s. Take it or leave, your choice.
