I just got a 1969 Dodge Dart. Its a straight muscle car. Im in the middle of renovating it, but i feel like getting it back to stock is too plain. I was wondering if theres anything that could give it a more street/tuner feel. any suggestions? thanks.

why dont you ask muscle car magazine. but personally i dont think there is any thing you can do to make it a street tuner because it is not a tuner car. but to make it fast you can always put in an old hemi motor from the charger r/t

When a domestic car lover asks for advice from TUNERS...!!! Damn, I've seen it all! Dude, You seem to be in the wrong forum for the advice your asking. Your ride will be high maintenance when you get what you want. I'm not saying to get rid of it. It's actually a pretty cool car to build as a hot rod. I'm a little confused as to your question, though. You want to give a more street/tuner feel? What, do you want a rotary sound coming from it, coil overs, twin turbo it? Actually, turboing it wouldn't be a bad idea. It would be original. Any way, don't ruin a good old school ride by hacking any tuner stuff to it. Old school muscle sounds good with a rumble. Try Jegs or Summit for horse power up grades, and that does mean rebuilding the engine to handle the parts you put in. If you haven't done it yet already, that is. Money and a great tech is all you need to get there. Leave tuning where tuning lives... with the imports.

I'm all for that and stuff, miamito. Its just that it sounds as if he wants to make it sound and go like a tuner... kind of like putting a RB25 into a old school mustang. ( courtesy of the exagerated movie, F&F) That's sort of a messed up mix there, if you ask me. I don't want to sound car prejudiced or anything, but realistically, he needs to keep focused on what he has and stick to what works for his ride. Domestic muscle could use some Japanese reliability and stuff but for now that is just not possible for him... assuming how much cash he's willing to spend on this venture, of course. I know that anything is possible with cash... I just feel that it is sacrilage, a sin, a misnomer, blasphemy even to mix our beloved love of imports with a domestic!!! Example??? I remember a caucasian salsa group that lasted all of one song. It was a one hit wonder. No album to remember or anything. That's sorta' how I feel about this. Domestic muscle should be just that... domestic. Don't try to do what will not be accepted as a tuner car. Build to your cars level of hardware use. How many of us would build a Pontiac Sunfire and pass it off as a tuner? I know that they're out there and God knows that they're corny! But, how many serious tuners would do that?

true man, but idk.....we're already swapping newer engines into older japanese cars like f20's into celica 1600gt's....maybe it could be the new craze a mix of japanese and american tuning.....it does sound pretty nasty but it might help keep tuning around longer and i think with time we could probaly come to accept it, just like ive come to accept seeing nissan engines in toyotas......i thought that was so disgusting b4

I can see beautiful mixes between asian girls, of any asian country, and any other race. They are out there, just take a peek at www.babeblvd.com and it'll confirm what I say. But with cars such as domestics? If a V8 won't give a domestic car the agility and power to weight advantage, as does with our imports, what can you gain from swapping in an import into a domestic? That's not realistic math to me. Big body with no power... the small engine may as well be in a Mack truck.

true...definitely true, i forgot all about that, but i mean not necessarily just swapping out engines, just tuning in general, its sometimes nice to see some of those drift drift mavericks, and other cars tuned like imports, i mean look at the falken/k&N mustang and the Toyo tires one, domestic (modern domestic but still same concept) i dont mind some of those big body muscle cars seen in drifting and any other import dominated motorsports, plus it seems pple are stating to like muscle cars for drifting, those big chassis make for some crazy weight distributions, and with some good differentials, those v8's can power the rear wheels to some crazy oversteer, basically all that needs to be done about those ridiculously clunky chassis is just tighten the suspension and the weight plus engine power can be to an advantage in racing, mainly drifting

I... am honestly without a response on this. I have to agree with you. It's just hard to accept... You know? I saw the first street race when Gogi ( a Puerto Rican street racer from the early 80s) beat a camaro in a boxy Corolla 4dr 1.8, punto ocho, light to light. It was a half mile run... It was breath taking to see a patch work of home made hardware perform as it did. Loud, though. From then on it was what I wanted to do. Build engines and set up drive trains for them. Times are a changin'!!!

We'll have to wait and see, amigo. I'm a little slow today 'cause of my meds kickin' in but I'm trying to head over to 1974dartswingers' thread titled "you dumbass ricers". Wish me luck that I don't fall off my chair.

i can see the logic - but there's nothing wrong with having the best of both worlds - some old powerplants came with less power and more cubic inches - or tiny engine in big heavy vehicle - so why not mix it up - v8's going into "tuner" cars has been known to happen - so the curiosity is there to see what would work the other way around - i have an '88 amc eagle 4wd - once i put 10" wide rims on the rear and used Crager rims it looked somewhat muscle - but it has no muscle (in the racing sense) - i can drag your import out of a ditch if you dare to drive it in a blizzard - but i'd get dusted with my cj-7 jeep engine in most any race. the 1st thought is to throw in american muscle - v8 - but that's too common and i like to be different- so since i have room to fit most any engine in there - i thought of making it lighter with a import engine- most modern 4cyl engines have more hp than what i have even without turbo! (torque is another issue) - but i've been holding off on my swap trying to get info from everywhere before doing the project - i've thought of 4cyl turbo/twin-turbo/supercharged - no one thinks it can be done - hell - i've even thought of a v12 jag engine - everyone wants more power - how you get it doesn't matter - i for one want to be different but at the same time i want it to work! i respect the "ours is the best" attitude but take a note from the mixed martial arts - some things get better when used in combination... that being said - can i get some tech help on what could work?
