Kenny Tran and his crew are the first to crank out a dyno-proven 500+ HP
from a fully built 2.6 liter, turbo-charged engine upgraded from the
factory 2.4L spec of this Scion tC. Talk to Kenny here about this
incredible car.

Ask Kenny your questions about the Nitto Scion tC and he will respond with updates and answers!

KT, Are you dealing with traction problems due to the large amount of horse power?

It is not as bad in low boost which is at 14 psi (about 350hp). Anything above that it is pretty hairy and would need drag radials or slicks to hook. As soon as a local track open, we will run it to see what it will E.T.

here is a good one, why didn't you guys go with a twincharger set up something along the lines of a screw supercharger feeding into the turbo, then the turbo feeding into the motor, you could run the supercharger on a magnetic clutch and also have a bypass valve so that it does not become a restriction?

Making power is not an issue with this car, it's traction. We can always install a bigger turbo to make more power. The turbo which is on the car now is max out at 540hp @ wheels, it spools up rather quick which makes it really fun to drive.

well i was not talking about making any extra power, your car right now can keep its max power the same and by adding the supercharger you will make it more drivable, it will fool the turbo into thinking the motor is bigger by changing is volumetric efficiency and by doing that you will get quicker spool up even with a huge turbo. so you can make a car that will produce 700hp but will start making power at like 2000rpm instead of 5000. also i have seen motors with this system making a really nice flat torque curves and that's what its all about anyway right.

KT, How long have you been at working on cars?  Some of my questions have nothing to do with cars but I was just wondering where you were born and raised?  How did you get into cars?  My car hobby started six years ago with a Honda Accord EX with a meager 4 cylinder VTEC engine.  Today I am doing bigger and better things.

Born in Vietnam and raised here in Texas since the age of 8. I've always been interested and involved in cars ever since. We're currently working on a fully-built twin turbo 350Z, it's in the last stage of dyno testing. My next personal project will be another Toyota Supra  - it should be done by August. We will have a new race car for 06 in the mix as well.

I used to own a 350Z.  I had 18x9/FR and 18X10/R Motegi Touges, carbon fiber hood and bumber on the Z.  I traded it on a used 05" Evo Mr ed, but I kept all the after market stuff.  I am doing a 5-lug and a Z32 brake converson to an 89" 240sx Coupe, and I will be putting the Motegi rims on the car. I really like my EVO but I still miss my Z but stock to stock the EVO could defeat it probaby in most types of races.  The 240sx will take a while because it's like restoring a muscle car because it involves body, paint and engine work.  I purchased a used engine to replace the blown one and I just need to have running so I can drive it back home after I graduate college next year.  I hope with a new job that I can fund my projects.  I want to do a total JDM conversion to my Nissan except for the steering wheel of course.  Far as my EVO goes I want to make some crazy but reasonable HP number. My plan is to invest about $6,000 in my EVO but alot more in my Nissan. Maybe I will get a sponsor one day.  I can't wait to hear about the 350Z in the future.  Good luck on your projects.

Hey my family lives in Frisco TX, right outside Dallas, and I've herd a lot of nasty rumors about Jotech here lately. A lot of people who had work done there have had their cars stolen or stripped. I know that Jotech obviously wouldn't be the ones doing that, but how do they plan on overcoming the bad publicity, because right now the name Jotech is synonymous with car-jack and I know a lot of people myself included won’t take cars out there because of the current risks.

Consider the source first before you judgement. I know that is comletely untrue and unsubstantiated. For the 10 years which Jotech have been in business, I've heard it all. The info you got is wrong. You know how it is, people like to drum up negative drama and make themselves better than it is. All we can do is keep on moving forward, push out good work, and take care of our customers and let the rest worry about the drama. Cheers -
