I just bought a 89 toyota mr2 mk1. The car is in perfect condition and only has 81k orig miles on it. It gets great gas mileage in its current N/A engine but I want more power in it. The car handles great but is lacking in acceleration. I cant find much info or examples of any on the web. Can someone please point me in the right direction or make some experienced suggestions?  

I have a friend that is going through the same problem you are having. Parts are hard to find for the later model MR2's  if you talk to a reputable shop they may be able to custom build parts for you. I would definitely take my time looking for things on the web.
