I've lurking around on the site for a bit and finally earned enough money to buy a vehicle of my own. I've been looking at a lot of cars and I've narrowed it down to three cars
1999 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL 1976 Chevy Camaro 1997 BMW 328i 3 Series
I don't know a lot about cars but I was wondering how these would do for modding and what not. I have a $10,000 limit, so money will only be an issue once it comes to actually changing the car

I would reconsider the BMW and look at the other two cars. BMW has a disturbing history with Hitler and no one with an educated mind would support such a past. Think about this a minute. I think that they make beautiful and extremely sexy cars, BUT... Back when Hitler was doing his crazyness with the Jews he accepted the cheapest bid from BMW to build disposal ovens that were used to eliminate and kill Jews. To me, that is not a good history for them. A lot of my dearest Jewish friends schooled me on some of those facts and sadly I now refuse to have any thing to do with that particular car company. Bayer Pharmaceutical is another company that participated in the NAZI war machine of that time. I wont get into details about that. Every thing is documented in historical libraries accross the country, so you don't have to take my word for it. Thats why many Jewish people do not drive BMWs or use any thing from Bayer Pharmacuetical. Stick with the 3000GT, there is a lot of potential there. And old school rides are extremely cool as well. In either case, a well built Japanese or domestic is better than supporting rotten history!

I've been talking to my brother recently and he's a much bigger auto-fan than I am and probably ever will. He told me the 3000GT has a heavy body and won't go as fast as other cars. That kinda has me leaning away, though he didn't say anything about the Camaro, probably since he doesn't know much about it. Perhaps someone here could help me
I wanna buy a car that's a coupe, manual, lightweight, looks smooth, will be fun to work on and isn't seen on the streets much. My broham told me to look into a 240SX, but I'm pretty sure his answered is biased since he's a big Nissan fanboy

The camaro is heavier than the 3000GT. The 99 is the last year they made them, and it will weigh around ~3200-3300 fully loaded. ( Can take spare / jack out ) to get rid of some extra weight if you want. It is no heavier than the other cars you are looking at.
If it is a 5Spd, and you like it, go for it. It'll last quite a long time. They are not great for passengers ( backseats ) do not fit anyone. Just depends on what you want.
If it has over 60k miles, make sure the 60k was done, and see if you can see proof of maintenance. Most people will tell you it has been done, but have no proof and didn't bother to do it, because the car will keep going for quite some time, and it's expensive for people who want to take it to the dealership to be done.
328 is great car as well. Test drive whatever you are looking at, and see which seats with you better.

As for the 240 suggestion... It is a great platform. There's a reason it is popular currently beyond the fanboy attitude, but they are great cars. Parts are extremely cheap and plentiful, and working on them is pretty much a breeze. I did a clutch on a 95 SE a few months back and didn't hit a single hitch through the removal or installation.
Upgrade potential is massive for those cars, ranging from LS1 swaps to SR20, and KA-Turbos. ( The KA stock in those cars, and can be turbo'ed relatively cheap, and still be VERY reliable )
If you were choosing between the 4 listed, I would go with the 240. I can speak from experience, you can only go so far with the FWD SL model of 3000GT. You could twin turbo it with the stock VR-4 parts, but you'd get tired of the FWD very quickly.
Let us know what you decide!
