Take a sheet of 1000 grit sandpaper.
Wet the cover, then rub side-to-side with sandpaper, ensuring you clean the entire cover.
Rinse well.
Repeat steps 1-3 with 1500 grit sandpaper.
Dry the cover by rubbing it with a good rubbing compound (such as 3-M).
Rub in a circular motion for about 5 minutes, then wipe off the compound.
Buff the covers using a dry cotton cloth. (You may have to repeat this process one to three times if the cover was badly fogged.)
Polish the cover with car wax.
I got this from wikihow incase anyone was wondering, but you can find a DIY on this pretty much anywhere. Hope this helps some of oyu out there with older cars! I did this to my moms 03' Highlander and it looks ten times better!

Hey man...great post. That's really useful. The car I just bought has really clear headlights and you know what you think when you see that...damn, how am I going to deal with it when they're not like that anymore? It's a lot cheaper option than that $20 *** that advance auto parts sells.

just a few edits DY, use "WET sandpaper" designed to use with water, and for every other sanding grit, you should change directions. ie. the first one sand verticle, second one sand horizontal, that will reduce the number of visible sanding lines when finished.
04stallionspecv - it should be around the same price, i got my kit for 11 dollars, and after you get sand paper, and rubbing compound, it probably ends up being the same price, unless your doing a massive amount of headlights... =P

OR.... The quick and easy way (A bit more expensive though) is to by this clear-plastic cleaner called "PlastX" by Meguiars. It works like magic, and you can finish both your headlights in 5 minutes flat!
But DIY FTW! This is just another, easier alternative for us lazy bahstads! I'm always down for the cheap fix!
Here's a link to the stuff:
