Ok,
I have a 97 sh prelude and just recently this happened. It happened all of a sudden and it was not a re-curring problem. I bassicly accelerated through vtec in 2nd gear shifted into 3rd and continued to drive until i came to a traffic light. I went to go do it again and right at 2500-3000 rpms, the car lost all of its power and got unbelievably loud. It does this in all gears. It wouldn't go anywhere, and it sounds like a hellicopter. The pedal could be to the floor and the engine just screams and doesn't accelerate worth anything. If i rev it up at idle you can here the engine bogging at about 2k-2500 rpms. I checked my timing with a timing light and its firing right at 15 degrees before TDC, I rev it up and the timing advances like it should. It has good fuel pressure, the tune up is all new, oil pressure is fine, timing belt was done at 123k, I have 126k on it now, the clutch is new as well. Like i said, this just happened all of a sudden. I am completely stumped on this one. I've dealt with some problems before, but nothing like this. I'm hopping somebody here knows where I should begin to look now. Thanks a lot, any help is appreciated.

Did you break the clutch in for about 500 to 1000 miles? Mabye the throw out bearing may have slipped off the shaft. (It happened to a mustang I got stuck putting a clutch in)

this is typical of a catalytic converter coming apart and blocking the exhaust flow making yur ride sound like a vacuum cleaner no power and awful intake noises, as long as the clutch seems not to slip id ck the convertor
