if you have the right amount of time and money you can make your car anything you want it to be...but a fwd drifter? you may be able to slide around a lil bit when you pull the e-brake but its unlikley you'll drift very well...

I saw magazine (Drag Racer I think) article where a veteran drag racer put a 305 cu in engine in a Cavalier.  Your idea of making your Cav into a drifting is not a good one.  Find a better vehicle.

ok one thing cavailers are a horrible car to begin with. 2nd do you know what drift racing is? you need to have a rwd vehical. Its not that no one has tried its that its not probible. if you can put a 305 in it, convert a rear-wheel drivetrain to fit a cavalier then you might be able to but DONT TRY IT.

Innovate and create, champ! That's the name of the game!!! Any car can be made a drift machine as long as it is rear wheel drive. Do you see what I'm getting at? If it's a front drive, innovate and create a rear drive cavalier. If it's your dream with this plat form, do it! It's a long road to get there but not impossible. If you thought like some of the negative advisors that have given you advice so far there would never be an import that would stomp on V8 domestics or an import market or a Super Street or Import Tuner OR AN IMPORT CRAZE...
You get my meaning? You do what rocks your world. Good advice is but a click away!

Wow, I'm glad I got curious and viewed this post. I saw that my cousin posted here as well, in my name. My name is Frank, friend, and I'm going to agree with most of the people that have given you advice so far. Unless it's a rear wheel drive, I don't see how successful drifting a front drive is going to be. If you have the money and the patience then build it to suit. It's not a cheap venture, though! It's your money and your time that's at stake. Look into getting a whole rear wheel set up, (engine, transmission and rear axle, subframe, etc.), and find an auto sport shop that will perform the refit on the Cavalier. That is, of course, if you're willing to go that far. Drifting is a rear wheel sport!
