Hello, First off... I love your magazine!!  It has inspired me, and helped lead to many componants I used in building my Z31.

I am writing in response to a call made in Mail Sack:

The School of Old
I just wanted to ask if you guys ever thought of bringing back the popularity of the old Fairladys? I myself have three Z31s: a red '84 300ZX Turbo, a black '86 and my favorite, a two-tone '88 300ZX Turbo. These cars are plenty strong, a bit on the heavy side, but definately loved by many out here. I read Super Street a lot and love the magazines, but you guys gotta kick it old school and bring back the ZX.

If someone can show us a super-clean mid-'80s Z worthy of a feature, there's a good chance you'll see it in the mag. Problem is, no one seems to build them, so we don't feature 'em. Anyone out there looking to change that?

I think I have a car you might like...  All readers please keep in mind when building a Z31 you cannot just open a magazine or call up a company and order this and that Performance part for a 1988 300zx.  In order to build one you must do a ton of research, be creative and resourseful, be a decent fabricator, and a little money does hurt either!!

This car was my first car I bought on my own, and I have owned it since it was almost new..  I drove it as a non turbo car for many years.  Well... as we all know a 1988 300zx, while nice looking, by that time was being passed by Civics, Sentras, and alot of the Econimy cars of the day.  I was attatched to the car, and couldnt see giving it up.  It was paied for, and was still Beautiful.  So I decided to build it into something a little more interesting to drive.  so in 2001 started the car to what is now.  It is quite more car than I thought it would become, and gets questions where ever I go.  Younger people always asks "What is this?"  and so many of us 30+ year old people say "I remember those!! I loved em"  Well mine is the a Z31 (this is the chassis number that describes 1884-1989 300zx models) reborn!! Ive put a TON of Blood, Sweat, and Tears into this car, and feel proud to show it.

The car makes 370Whp and 415Trq at 18 PSI.  It has been tuned to my current PSI of 21 PSI, and should make well over 400WHP and Mid 400 in torque at the next Dyno session.

The car in going to be getting some Chassis mods this year, as well as New seats, Steering wheel, and a different dash gauge cluster.

Z31 300zx have TONS of potential, and I devote a ton of time to the Z31 community.  My web forum 88hybrid.com is a great place to start learning about the "OL school 300zx"!!

That there is a pretty tight "Z". It is difficult to get things for the older stuff from the 80s. I've always said that you have to have a masters degree in creativity when you want to build one any of them. There was a time when I considered making custom stuff for the old school rides and create a company that catered to the old school imports, but at the time there wasn't a market for it. Now, I guess, it would work due to the popularity of the old school rides. Not too many places cater so it is a ripe market. American cars have places for replica parts why not the import world. Let's see what happens.

More like a decaying market if you ask me Ha ha ha just kidding. Classics aren't my forté and they never will be, but I can respect the amount of sweat and blood you need to put into an older car to make it hang with the newer ones. I prefer the old rat rods with the newer engine swaps myself(easier to find engine parts, and more reliability, but you still get the classic styling of an older car).

Your car could easily make a feature in Super Street, but you need to know where to submit it so that the right people see what you have ot offer, and the forums is NOT the place to do so.

You'll want to send in your car specs as well as professionally developed and processed photos in to one of the editors if you can. I would love to help you, but from where I currently stand in this company, I can't even breathe the same air as the editors.

Damn, D! Maybe this would be an opportunity for you to get a better position in the company by being a car scout or some thing. You can't leave it to the other guys to get noticed! You know what I mean?
You gotta' admit, though... the ride is tight! And rat rods, though fun to look at, are not the most fun to restore. Puss there are companie out there that make replica rat rods that are cool, but leave no desire to the originalty of the design. Far too many of them exist now in replica form for it to interest me. That, of course, is just my oppinion. I don't hate them... I just have no interest.

Replicas are the unfortunate bastard child of a free market economy. Where there is demand, supply will arise in one form or another. Not to say that many of those copmanies don't do quality work, because many of them do.

My grandpa's got a couple model T's as well as an entire boneyard of classic car paraphenalia laying around our CNC shop.

Amen there!
Your grandpa must do a lot of custom stuff for people... it would be cool to see a bone yard like that to see all those hard to find classics.
