Yo guys im goin for naturally aspirated is300. i got an hks dragger 2 and gettin an srt intake w/ racing ecu. You guys got any suggestions to get more hp after that? also the price ranges. I also read that there are some adjustments like resetting the ecu ever 3k miles. Are there any other manual stuffs i got to do with the ecu cuz i got no idea how that works.

Cmon, thats quite an expensive car and no matter what you do short of build a full race engine, it will be slow..Intake/exhaust is all BS unless you have a turbo or highly built car. And gauges? LMAO.. What in the *** do you need gauges for on a mostly stock IS300 motor? Whats so critical that you need to monitor?? vacum? voltage? LOL... There are many great turbo kits out there for the IS300, google it. One of my friends a few years back picked up a rev-hard kit used on ebay for under 2 grand and he was putting down 325 at the wheels with no problems.
Now...if you want this to be a canyon/touge car then YES, I would go the NA way too. However it seems that most everyone on this board is a ricer and no one even know what they want, and why they want it. If you want to street race etc, then an NA IS will just be a waste of money and you will be pissed of when stock Mustang GTs smoke you left and right.. Just my 3 cents(adjusted for inflation)

There is a lot of validity to what pucsicsal says but it doesn’t look like this guy wants to go balls out. It sounds like he wants a little more power with some basic bolt ons and an engine that will last. (edit - I’m in no way saying that just because you turbo your car it wont last... HP is HP. The more you make, no matter how you make it, creates more stress on your engine which inherently shortens the life span of your engine)

well if yore tweaking the ecu wouldnt that mess the redline gauge especially if u removed the rev limiter or w/e, just a suggestion made froma n assumption...honesly i dont know much about ecu's; ive never touched or messed with one but im just making assumption.....and a "ricer" isnt someone who doesnt know what they want...thats just "someone new to tuning"...ricers are diff.... and not everyone wants 600hp boosted cars to race on weekends on their local highway....

ye i aint goin for no 600hp. if i was why wouldnt i just srt stage 4 turbo 550-1000hp? lol. n/a car is what i want. good throttle response is main thing. 350 give or take a few is good for me. and plus what u said before lke 325. thats plenty to smoke a mustang anyways. plus if theres gon be one or two turns on the track hes gon be completely screwed.

Your right, I might have went on a little rant there and maybe came down a bit hard, but I am biased after riding in my friends turbo IS one too many times.
IS's are nice cars with intake/exhaust too. Also, you could leave the engine alone for now, and put that money toward suspension and tires, and taking it to track days! A little costly, but a whole day of open "racing" beats a few street races here and there. Plus you will learn how to handle your car, and also not have to worry about Johhny Law putting you in the slammer for the night. -Chris
