Yea, yea, i know exactly what you were thinking when you read the subject line... "WTF!" OK OK OK, hear me out. my first car was a 1990 Honda Civic LX, got... had some rims for it, got a invader kit for it, didn't wanna bring myself as low of slapping a a rinky-dink muffler on it. Everything was going fine, one night, fell asleep at the wheel (2AM) didn't drink or anything, and had a head on head with a steamroller... a parked steam roller... laugh it up, i sure as hell did. Then my next car, my '97 Saturn SL1. I love this car, it's given me plenty of problems, but i fixed them all with ease (solutions come to me without even thinking). So, I realized that i was gonna be having this car for a while, since my wallet is being emptied everytime it got full (rent, insurance, etc..) So, i put some rims on it 17" REV Model IV, looked pretty good, so i re-did the interior, and started to re-upohlster (to tired to spell), only got the bottom cushion of the backseat done, and the driver seat, looks pretty good even thou i hand sewed it. So i was like, alright, i can work with this, and i did some research, so i have the websites, the products, and the prices to completely rebuild a DOHC 1.9L engine, excluding turbo and all other stuff, just engine, $7,000 and it should give me around 240HP, not bad since stock is only like 100-115HP, well, i haven't done anymore work to it, and i'm seriously thinking of just putting that off for a while, im' really wanting to buy a 93-95 Mazda Rx7, that my dream car, and i already have plans for (products, websites, prices, shipping and tax), it'll be around $50,000 when i get finished with it which will probably take a while. So, i decided, the only way to be able to do anything, is if i start of career life, so i decided to go to Nashville Auto-Diesel College (NADC), and hopefully i'll be making the money to support all of my car needs. But I do plan on finishing the Saturn after i get enough money to do the biggest mods on it. Ya'll will be surprised. wait and see. Well, i just wanted to tell my story, so there it is.

whoa! 50k spend on a 10-13 year old car? how could you possibly blow that much on an RX-7? if your planning on spending 50 grand, buy a friggin Elise or something high end. the smart thing if you want to mod - buy a brand new performance car (evo, sti, 350z, etc) and still have 20 grand left over for mods, which is wayyyy more than enough to build an amazing car.  give me 20 grand and a new STI or EVO and ill get a car on the cover of this magazine.  hell if i had 50 grand to spend on a car I would pick up a R33 GT-R!

if you spend 50 grand on an rx7, in the end the only thing you have is a 13 year old car that is on its way out, and you are gonna be out 30-40 grand, money just burned up in the car.

ps. dont spend money modding your saturn at all, it'll just be money wasted.  you can never sell a car for a higher price just because you blew money on it.  if your planning on modding, wait till you pick up the RX-7, and dont spend 50 grand on it!

Yea, thanks for the advice, i probably will just wait until i get the rx7. If I had to pick a different car than rx7, it would probably most definitely be a supra, but ever since i saw the 93 rx7 when i was a kid, i just amazingly got attached to them, even thou i have never owned one, they body style, the rotary engine, the interior, everything caught my eye like "wow", i don't really even know why that car stands out to me so much, it's kind of like when you go to buy a new pair of shoes, you look at all the different ones, but then you see this one pair, that you know you have to get, no other pair will satisfy you as much, thats how i feel about the rx7's, it's weird, i dunno, anyways, i'll hit ya'll up when i get my rx7. I just enrolled in college today for automotive. Ya'll take it easy. Lata.

You could own and build like 10 Saturns for that price.... Heres a couple websites:

www.streetdesignauto.com
www.saturnmotorsports.com
www.spswebpage.com

No way 50k, you could buy like 3 of each item on those sites and still be under 50k

I have to agree with UnderdogSDA.  Saturns are like Legos.  So easy to put together and build.  We just have to search harder than the average guy to mod our cars.

DPImpreza, you mentioned buying an Evo, 350Z, or STI.  Sure those cars are nice but everyone and their mother has one now.  If you want to be a lemming and have no desire to be original than that's fine.  Personally I love rolling up to a meet, show, or race and watching all the people do double takes and crowd around my car because they've never seen a Saturn heavily modded before.

I do have a weakness for the RX-7's though.  That is a beautiful car but it will just cost your your whole ars to complete.  Would I mod it if I had one?  Hells yeah!!  But keep in mind that stock Saturns weight in at around 2200 lbs.  Add a few mods to it and you are flying.  Just check out www.fsrmotorsports.com for some good info.

Please keep in mind that I'm not hating on any other cars as I have much respect for all makes and models.  I'm just pointing out that there is an advantage to being different, and when you build somthing different correctly, you earn mad respect!!!  If you build somthing that everyone and their mothers have already built countless times with an unlimited suply of off the shelf parts, you tend to blend into the crowd.  The easy route seldom earns respect.  Any objections??

But i would find it hard to believe you can compare the driving experience you get from an RWD Rotary RX-7 to a FWD Saturn.

I agree with you 100%!!!  But there is just something about being the underdog and coming out on top that continues to drive this sick Saturn obsession of mine.
