Is JDM the new rice?

As much as I hate the label "rice" or "ricer," do you guys think that JDM is an evolved form of it?

Don't get me wrong, I like JDM parts that offer some benefit--performance or cosmetic. However, a lot of people mod their cars with JDM parts just because they're JDM.

Also, has anyone noticed how JDM, an acronym that is supposed to stand for Japanese Domestic Market, is now used completey out of context? Just do an eBay search for JDM parts and you'll find tons of non-JDM stuff labeled as JDM. Moreoever, I've had people tell me my car is "JDM." Just because I keep it clean does not mean it's JDM. Other than the hood, I have no JDM part on my car. (I should also add that I didn't get the hood because it was JDM. I needed a better one before having my car repainted. And I found one. On Recycler. $50. Yipee.)

Don't get me wrong, JDM is great--when the parts actually serve a purpose. Afterall, the quality of OEM can't be beat, but when people start buying JDM parts for the sake of having JDM parts... that's when JDM is reduced to being a useless fad.

even though I don't have an import. I think that the manufactures use jdm to move items because in the import world these parts are desired. I have seen a ton of "JDM" stuff for my neon, last time I checked they were made here(not anymore),  BUT I also think after a certain point jdm goes too far. A jdm spoiler or lip and some few choice parts performance or accessory is nice, but some start going overboard to the point that it'd just be easier swapping your usdm emissions controls and vin plates to the Japanese counterpart.

JDM is nice IF it (1) improves performance or (2) Looks better than aftermarket....
I like the cleaner look of some JDM parts but going to the extreme (like changing the steering wheel side for looks for example) is too ricey 4 me!
My car (1989 Chrysler Conquest TSi w/ the Special Handeling Package) is harder to get parts for & doesn't have all of the aftermarket part availability that civics and more common cars enjoy... so sometimes JDM is the only other choice...

JDM is the new rice hands down. Correct me if im wrong JDM means oem stock market japanese stuff not aftermarket anything. honda heads on the east coast are notorious for iver using the term JDM. I just say if its not RHD then it isnt JDM period.

I don't think I would go so far as to say all that, people.
Fist, a correction. JDM stands for Japanese "Dealer" Market. Not "Domestic". Second, the JDM parts that are in question are only parts that are made for the cars made in Japan and for Europe. Hence the term JDM. Those people who install these components, here in the U.S., such as lights and grills and covers, are only trying to make their cars more authentic to the Japanese versions. The Japanese cars we get in the U.S. market are very different than the ones in Japan. Even the engines are different due to emissions laws here. i.e.: A RB26DET engine in the U.S. is not the same as a RB26DET engine in Japan. There are big differences between the two even though they are still RB engines.
Any way, don't confuse the term "ricer to "JDM". It's not the same and never will be. The term "ricer" will always be synonomous with the extremely over done little cars that are weighed down with fiberglass and protrusions of some sort. I don't like the term "ricer" either but confusing ricer with JDM is not correct.
One more thing. Why are you guys mixing JDM and Chrysler cars in the same conversation? Chrysler had a thing with Mitsubishi for a while but not in the way you guys are putting it. Chrysler is Chrysler... American! JDM is for Japanese cars! Import and domestic parts don't mix too well. Again, JDM is for Japanese cars and domestic is for American cars. lol! There are no JDM parts made for American cars... Chrysler Neons including.
