I want to know why people want to modify american cars like focus or neons?

from what ive witnessed and experienced american cars are junk in the long run. sure the trucks are awsome and thats one thing that wont die but the cars, come on seriously, they dont meet par.

personally i think both are ugly specially neon with its  frog lights

i know that there will be at least two people bashing me and telling me im stupid but oh well go for it.

Before I start, I own a Supra.
Me and my family have owned so called American cars. They are very reliable and dependable, only one brand of cars that is american has failed to meet that, and it don't got nothing to do with GM. If you take care of your car, your car will take care of you. I never heard of Corvettes breaking down, or Camaros, or any Dodge cars, or Oldsmobile, (Pontiac is an exeption...), or Cadillacs. I never heard of Jeeps breaking down. Yup, one more thing. It was never about domestics against imports, as a true car fanatic, I love all sides when it comes to cars. Interesting fact: I see more Hondas broken down on the side of the road then any other import, domestic, truck or car.

well i didnt meen the high priced cars like corvette and cadillac abviously they should be well built for the price you have to pay for them. I meant the cheap cars that you can buy like neon and focus. And i dont mean the factory moded ones like the srt-4. and jeep isnt a car its and suv by the way and i didnt rag on the truck or suv thats one thing america has right.

I never hear about the "cheap" American cars breaking down or nothing. The only cars from America that aren't reliable are the ones by Ford, gosh they suck at making something thats not a mustang or a truck. Trust me, if it's not a mustang or a truck, stay away from Ford.

Why would anyone want to mod a Focus or Neon? I don't know, why would anyone want to mod a Civic? Some cars are more reliable than others, but trying to make 400hp out of somthing that was engineered to only withstand 200 will definetly land you broken down on the side of the road.

As far as looks, thats just your opinion. Every manufacturer cant please everybody.

Actually, in my opinion, the American TRUCKS are subpar in terms of saftey and quality, not the forign ones.

o.O wow...this could get interesting.

K, first, both sides have good and bad. People bash the base neon and focus, but neglect to mention the subpar performance/quality of the low end *** vehicles. It all depends on the market, really. Just as the base civic is than substantial in terms of performance, it also has a very reliable engine and will get you from a to b most of the time. Many other *** cars are the same way. Thing is, the Focus, Neon, Cavalier, etc are for the most part in the same boat. They all have high performance versions as well, and there's as least one really awesome engine on either side. (The SRT-4 engine, for example, can handle horsepower normally reserved for NASCAR and drag racers,(1000+), and the Ecotec isn't too shabby either. On the *** side, look at some of the V-TEC engines or the S200's N/A beast. They make some awesome track cars, don't they?

Of course, you can also look at the foreign and domestic markets in general too. Both have their highs and lows as far as performance. The U.S has the the Viper, the Z06, the SVT Cobra, and several others, while Japan has the Skyline, NSX, Evo, etc... The U.S actually wins as far as the really high-end cars like the S-7 and Phaeton, but that's not what we're talking about.

The flip side to this is the low-end cars. The U.S has sunken pretty low, and anyone who has ridden in a 3-cylinder metro knows what I'm talking about. Japan has these, too. Anyone ever ride in the old Toyotas? Yeah, they got great gas mileage, but unless you just took really good care of them you spent the money you saved on gas to fix the car. (Btw, my family had owned both.)

Y'see, it all goes both ways. What I find funny is that nobody ever mentions the European cars. Anyone ever seen a modded out Elise? Or maybe a 206? They can get pretty sick, can't they. Guess that doesn't have to do with this, though...

Like others have said, take care of the car and it will treat you good (usually...I had a neon that proved otherwise...long story)

Toyota and Honda have set the standard for reliable transportation in this country.  There is a very good reason why Toyota is fast becoming the #1 car manufacturer in the world and why Honda is moving up as well.  It comes down to quality and bang for the buck.  Period.

Someone said they see more imports along side the road than domestics.  I find that odd.  On a recent trip (ok...2 years ago, but recent enough) to Florida from North Dakota I kept track of how many imports and domestics I saw broke down along side the road (elimating those w/ flat tires from the count as best I could)  There were a total of 132 cars broke down (cumulative between there and back) between Fargo and Fort Lauderdale.  Of them only 19 were imports, the rest ranged from crappy old mid-early 80's american cars to "Luxury" cars such as Navigators, Caddy's and Denali's, its a good thing they come with On Star, well at least the GM's do.  The imports I saw were mostly stock (looking) late 80's early 90's Corrolas, Civics and Legacy's.

I see it like this a good car is a car that looks good and has a good performance. Around were i live (maine) everyone and i meen everyone says that neons and focuses are [censored] cars no offense but they kinda are. The styling in both in my opinion is directed towards girls. there are other cars people around here consider "[censored]" cars like jetta, celica, cavalier etc.

u can really see what is reliable here because of the road conditions and we have harsh winters with lots of salt on the roads. if you live in a place with snow during winter time then you know what i mean. The cold beats the hell out of certain cars and ive witnesses them mostly being american.
