Yeah, with what 99whiteclipse says.. a lot of what the topic starter says holds a lot of truth - there are tons of people who let the "image" of a car enthusiast get to their head and they start to think they are somehow "badass" and "cool" without enough knowledge to back and support much.
The other thing is though a lot of us are little on money. I mean, I don't make much at all because I'm 18 and how it is around here, and my asian parents don't support any of that either. So, I do what I like doing around with my civic.
I think most of the time it's just way too much misunderstood .. maybe people like the art aspect and that sometimes gets to their head when it comes to "knowing your stuff" *** they don't have to know their stuff sometimes, they're just in it for the image - and sometimes, that's "business" haha

I agree wit 99white_eclipse, it's not fair for ppl like us who want to get into da import scene to be shited on. But ppl like the ones mentioned earlier at walmart just deserve to get runed over, i mean dat is just plain stupidity. But anyways it is kinda hard for us to get mods for our cars at the age of 17 getting paid 8.50 an hr and still got to worry bout other *** I mean i just bought me an CAI after 3 months of having my car da whole thing cost me 240, and believe me dat hurted a lot but you know wat its worth it, and i plan on adding some other mods, not no *** shift knob or a stupid sticker im talking intercooler, exahust system, turbo kits etc. It just gonna take a while for me to get dat money. But for those ppl dat say da shift knob gave dem a gain of 12HP or da sticker gave them a gain of 50hp THOSE are da ppl who our a disgrace to Import Scene, not ppl like us who are really trying to get into da real thing.

yeahi have to agree on one part of your post yes ther are way too many people out there who dont know *** about their cars and think that by changing a freaking shiftnob adds hp (retarded) i get sick everytime i see a freaking civic thinking hes a badass because their lights are aftermarket and have a exaust that sounds like someone farting in a coffee can... that being said i can understand how people like to show off what they got (or dont) because they are proud of the little they have accomplished. i have the same problem but i have a better reason for my lack of money and avalible parts for it. so you can at least give the ricers a little break but if they are a complete idiot and know nothing about their car then give them ***

I think we can all agree that the term ricer more so stems from the driver's attitude then the actual car - although it has migrated over to explain people's dislike in other peoples modifications

Thats true. It mainly the attitude of the driver or stupidity that makes some one a "ricer"

mmm I'm 18 with a 1986 Fiero GT, rebuilt engine. And I plan on dropping an LS2 V8 in it after putting on a racing exhaust, red under bodies, tint windows, my own custom decals, but I don't think that makes me a ricer =p

Goin back to the first post, just joined in on it all, people like that drive me crazy. Think that their car is all that and that they can out run you without tryin is annoying. Now I may not have much room to talk right, by the condition my '95 Civic Hatchback is in. But when my car is done, its gonna be fixed up and its gonna be able to keep up with most people, or so I hope. Everyone is doggin me, callin me a ricer, so what that my car has a body kit on it and that thats the way I want my car to go. *** its gutted out right now to do body work. Yeah I run the D15 motor that came in with exhaust and an intake, not much, but it gets me around. But at least I have a B18 thats being built to drop in it. I co-own a business, XCustomz, that deals with cars, audio and what not, so I want my Hatch to be the point that people, go "Hey, they know what they're doin." and its not just a stock motor with a flashy kit on it. If you're gonna fix it up, don't go all looks, go with the motor too.
I've been on other forums and been called ricer just because of what I have planned for my car. I respect the JDM look, its clean and looks great, but I want to be different and not have what everyone else does. Thats what being yourself means really, to me at least. *** my own freakin' family tries to call me ricer. But hey I don't care, I blow it off, and just say, wait til its done. Goin show and street with it. Have to earn a name for myself to prove that what I want shouldn't be classified as that.
And I agree ricer shouldn't define the car, but really the driver.
So theres my 2 Cents on that one. Sorry its kinda long. Just tired of being called something I'm not.

i hate ricers. period. im not really involved in that muscle vs tuner stuff, but i hate cars that look good, have a cocky driver, with no engine work. i have beaten ricers in a minivan and laughed at their idiocy. fools put on a spoiler because they think it looks cool or makes their car go fast. retards. its for downforce, and why would you need a spoiler on a car that struggles to hit 90 mph ? first things first. the engine and the handling. looks come last. all the money WASTED on those stupid spoilers, body kits, lights, neons, and stickers could have been SPENT on quality performance parts for your engine, so that you dont get beat by a minivan.

Hi, Just wanted to share my thoughts on your comment. Well People basically work with what they have, its there hobby to take a neon, eclipse or whatever and give it a label as it has this much horse power so what does that matter, it really matters on the track or were ever as long as its safe. I am a senior college student and i have a hobby of breaking down my car with my buddies and building it back up and i have a 2000 dodge neon so there is nothing wrong with modifing the vehicle with which ever kind of mod may that be, a walmart brand muffler or a $50 cold air intake. Getting cheap stuff just means that you are resourcefull. Plus not every one wants to spend rediculous amounts of money on modifing engines etc. Also car are just bad investments so why bother spending your life savings on a machine that will take you from point A to B.

I would just like to say the guy who started this topc is a complete MORON. You judge an entire group of tuners from like what three people? That is pathetic. Ever heard of something called stereotype from people with no credibility? Get an education please. You telling people to get this car instead of that, what about financial needs. Not everyone is loaded like you since aparently you make it seem easy for people to buy any car they want. Btw yes you can make civic into a pretty sweet ass car. Learn to get some facts before u start attacking stuff u dont even kno about. 600hp civic in published mag go take a look buddy.

Ok now I've read too much crap about the topic starter. I'm another person who hates ricers just as much as all the other people out there in (or trying to get in) the import scene, that give tuners a bad name. But I've seen my friends mom race some little dipshit in his honda civic, with some stupid body kit, big ass wing, and coffee can exhaust, in her 1998 Isuzu Oasis. She whooped his ass so bad. This was one of those cocky kids that rev their puny engines at every red light thinking they're badasses and can beat anyone in a quarter mile strecth. Now everyone who's ever rode in a buick before knows how huge those cars are, My other friends dad raced this kid in a 2005 Toyota Celica (body kit and all), mopped his ass with his used 2006 Custom Buick LeSabre. (yes I know the engine diffence)

And what's with this dumbass who put the GTR logo on a mustang. That person should be shot. I love the skyline and all but you DON'T put things from some tuner car onto American muscle

awwww.i thought we were gonna be bashing Hondas (blame them they started ricing with their type r"ice"). To sum MY point up, if anyone doesnt want to be associated with rice, they should stay away from Hondas, the temptation to put on wings west kits for cheap b4 even putting in an intake is toooo high. And american cars...u need to know theres a huuuuuuge difference between the real muscle cars and the pony wagons...67 Corvette stingray, 70 GTO, 69 Camaro ss, Challenger, Charger, Chevelle are all muscle cars....80-00 camaro ss, 80-00 mustang, 90's corvettes, Monte Carlos, are all pony wagons just to clarify that. A skyline gtr sticker on a musle car is...wrong, but on japanese "muscle" (as i call them) like 70s gtr, savannah rx3, corolla 1600gt's are sexy.......stop complaining about ricers and dont blame F&F(just a movie, oh and 4 is comign out in a while), ricers have always been and always will be 4 as long as civics r popular.
P.s ik half the stuff i sed isnt relevant but i dont care...im bored right now and feel like voicing my thoughts until they become rants
"Mitsubishi eats Hondas like I eat rice"

I shouldn't even bother, but considering I just wasted 10 minutes of my life to read this entire thread, I may as well contribute.
Rice is an attitude, not a car category. There are plenty of idiots out there with Mustangs and Firebirds that are no better.
With regards to Honda...those of you that bash Honda are obviously not very well educated in automotive motorsports, and I'll just attribute that to you being young, ignorant, or just...well...a ricer. Because making blanket statements about an entire car company, especially one as successful as Honda, is just very indicative of a ricer.
Honda engine technology is leaps and bounds beyond most others. Just take a look at F1 race results. If Honda is rice, then I guess that makes Michael Schumaker the BIGGEST ricer. lol.
True, the Civic is not meant to be a race car, its an economy car.
I don't own a Honda, nor do I praise them on a regular basis, but don't blame a good car company on the many pimple-faced retards that choose to modify them in poor taste.
But don't listen to me...after all, I'm nothing but a ricer with a Toyota and a big wing.
