I have a 95 talon and the check engine light has been on for a pretty long time. I have had it checked but nothing seems wrong. Is there another reason this would light up?

Could be alot of things. Could be somthing as simple as EGR code or 02 sensor code. Only way to know for sure is to take it to Auto Zone and have them pull the code up.

Auto Zone, aha! I haven't been in the states for awhile but I do know when I was there Auto Zone was only good for purchasing batteries and oil. Those goons aren't certified mechanics. Take the car to your dealership or a shop of the same.

God, you are a tool. This is the reason why you need to keep your ass in Japan, because we can use less idiots here in the states. Why should he take his car to a dealer where they will charge him a minimum diagnotstic fee of no less than $60 dollars to do what a simple OBDII diagnostic scanner can do at Auto Zone for free? You also assume that just because he takes his car to a dealer, those *** won't rip him off? Stop giving out BS information, and think about what your saying before you make some half-assed retarted post.

They probably think it isn't OBDII. 1995s are actually OBDII, just bring it up there and tell them to scan it, it will work. It's an OBDII port, just most 1995 cars are OBDI, whereas the dsm is OBDII.

I worked for Dodge Dealership which will remain unnamed in Charleston SC for a year or so. I also have friends who've worked at dealerships. Dealerships are shady, and while some are better than others, they are a rip. For example, at the dealership I worked at, it dosn't matter what specific type of oil your car calls for, they all get 10W30 that comes from a tank in the back. It's not special, or synthetic, just regular old 10W30. It dosn't matter if the vehicle calls for 5W20, your getting 1030 regardless. You pay for a "full service" including checking and topping off of all fluids, but we never put windshield washer fluid in, it's topped off with all water.
And regardless whether they rip you or not, they still will charge you a minimum for scanning a code.

yeah, they're going to charge you for scanning your car. in the time that they check you in, call over the tech, drive the car to the bay, plug in the scantool, test the parts related to the code(s), well they could have started a different job that they'd also make money on. time is money. when you go to the doctor does he look at you for free?
there's plenty of bad dealerships out there, but that does not imply that they are all out there to rip you off. a guy like me or maybe you may be able to repair most anything on his own car, but the great majority of people out there cannot and therefore, they need a garage to fix it. you may have worked at a crappy one, but at the stores i've worked at, well we always use real washer fluid for fill-ups. we even buy the low-temp stuff for winter since we're so nice

Yeah, like I said, some dealerships are more legit than others, but I don't think that even if I wasn't competant enough to scan a code in my car that I would take it to a dealer. Idiot boys at Advance Auto Parts and Auto Zone, while may not know a carburetor from a lug nut, can scan your car without incident for the most part. It's kinda hard to screw up pushing a plug in a port and pushing the "On" button on. A dealer is where I would go to do more important stuff, like recalls, major transmission work, ect.

I think you guys all have good points. I don't know how to work on my car and have had bad experiences at both dealerships and autozone. I had a part replaced at a dealershiip and paid a few hundred dollars for them to put in a part that cost less than fifty. I also recently ordered a part from autozone and not only did they sell me the wrong part but when I took it back in none of them even knew what it was even though i had just picked it up the day before.
