I'm in Iraq and am comin' home in Dec.! I have $15 G's to spend on a Project car. I want to spend $10,000 of it on a car and $5,000 on parts for now. Whats the best car i can get for this price? I'm thinkin' 98-00 Civic (but they are everywhere). And a 99-01 Integra, I need help bad. Give me some more ideas. There are so many good cars out there. Or should I just spend the money getting a new car to hook up?

dont let that money burn a hole in your pocket soldier boy a good project car depends on your personal tastes! your into hondas and thats cool, there are a gazillion parts for the cars you described so you'll be able to quite literally tweak every part of those cars.  but dont limit your self to just those cars. the very first thing you should do is ask yourself is "what do you wanna do with the car that you buy". if you wanna cruiser that might see some action on the strip on friday nights or some track time on saturdays the cars you mentioned are cool. but if you wanna get serious about racing and taking on some serious tracks you better start looking at some front engine rear wheel drive rides. right now the 240sx is a car thats gaining popularity on the and is one of the hottest cars on the market. you can get a 94-98 240 for about 6k to 10k and new parts are coming out all of the time for both motors (ka24de and the sr20det), the sr being the preferred motor if you ask anyone on the super street staff. but if you haunt the pages of your local autotrader and check your local dealers, with 15k in the stash you might be able to get you grubby little hands on something like a late 90's supra or even a S2K if your really lucky. ponder on thos tidbits and post later.

i wouldn't buy a new car.  i've bought a few in the past, and if you're looking to modify it, it usually isn't worth it.  half the fun of a project car is taking something that's getting tired and giving it a new lease on life!

another idea is a 1.8t gti.  you can find one for $10Kish.  with the extra $5K you could build a well balanced car.  $1K-1500 will get you a chip, tbe, diverter valve, intake  and into the very low 14's.  you'll have enough left for some coilovers, wheels/tires, and brakes.

Like Fatso said, ask yourself what you want the car for.

Civics probably aren't the best bet if you're looking for a hardcore drag car, but would be an excelent choice for Autocross (same with an Integra) and you can find a shell for relatively nothing.

For drift and serious drag:
240sx's- from about 3k for 80's to early 90's - 10k for later models
Supra's- about 1k for 80's models - 20k+ for the early 90's+ models
RX7's- about 1k for 80's and early 90's models - 20k+ for 1993+ models)

For show- Whatever floats your boat!

Also, the GT-S/SR-5/AE86 (all same lightweight chassis, body style, and RWD setup) Corolla's are great for drift and especially show. I've seen alot of people get respect for their AE86's.

The upside, of course, of having a Civic is that you'll get the best gas mileage out of them all Good luck and I hope to hear back what your decision was.
