We all have our favorites. Not nessisarily in order by best to worst....

1)Toyota 2JZ-GTE- know many engines that can handle 1,000hp on STOCK bottom end? This one does.
2)Mitsubishi 4G63T- IMO, the best four cylinder engine. Stout, loves revs, handles big boost, even in factory form. Much love.
3)Old school small block Chevrolet V8- GIANT aftermarket, old as dirt, tried and true.....nuf' said.
4)Nissan SR20DET- Nissan 4 banger guys love boost too. This one's got an aluminum block.
5)SRT-4 engine- I forget the engine code, but it's the bomb diggety!
6)Ford 302- The 5.0 is the bomb. Alot came factory with forged pistons. Lots of potential. They go in Mustangs and stuff.
7)Toyota 3S-GTE- Toyota four cylinder turbo, found in MR2s and the bad ass Celica All-Trac.
8)Viper Engine- 10 cylinders, in V formation. They own you.
9)Honda B series- good if stuffed in lighweight chassis. Lots of aftermarket. Reliable.
10)GM Gen III and IV V8 engines- Nice late model stuff. Still has pushrods, but who cares?  Most are all aluminum, and make lots of power. Found in Corvettes, Trans Ams, ect. LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7, take your pick.

Lots more, but just 10 I think of alot

screw the small block chevy, give me a good old 427 or 429 if we're talking v8.  if you got a v8, small block is for ***  big block better.  and a 426 hemi, not that new one, but the real one, the one chrysler crammed into everything. sr20 is cool, dig that, my homie has one in his 240.  nice little engine.  v-10, and a v-12, definately the v-12

awesome, someone here likes the srt engine here as much as i do.  the code is A853 for the Es are tee four.  i would also add the rb26det and possibly the vg30dett (300zx z32), those things car put out 700 hp easy.

The reason I said small blocks was because the small block has been around longer (since around 1955, I believe), and the aftermarket is cheaper. Big blocks are nice too.

personaly i would take a small block over a big block, they can rev higher and with the right setup can make just as much pwoer and be happier at 6000rpm.

Agreed. They are also a tad bit lighter...

Civicking, would you like to add anything to the list? I also forgot to mention the 3.8 liter turbo engine found in the Buick Grand National and Regal T Type.

Don't forget the 4AG series of engines. Toyota Atlantic cars use them, they come in supercharged version, and 20v version. Don't sleep on the 4AG.

like it or not, the small block chebby is probably the single greatest engine of all time.  motor trend did a huge series of articles on it a few issues back if you want to read up on its history.  a 2jz may be able to support 1000hp, but does anyone really think that the good ol tree fiddy couldn't do that as well, without breaking a sweat and at a fraction of the price too?
