So your saying that after you install a "bolt-on" turbo you don't "tune" your engine?

erm.. i just wanted to know... i heard that turbos are less strain on the engine.... turbos and superchargers are the same thing. only, the turbo is on the located where the exaust gases comeout of the block. the supercharger is placed on top of the engine. and runs on a belt.

hence if understand that if have an engine... the your V8 with loads of torque, the super is cool and no issue.... but if you had an 4 cylinder evo engine, i would be able to use the super, coz it would take 40% of the crank power just to run the supercharger. thats why turbos are used....

now if turbos are genuinly better, then why are there soo many muscle cars with roots type supercharger

I think people use superchargers because they are SLIGHTLY easier to install compared to turbos. to me Super Chargers are a waste of money, I work on everything cars, trucks, semis American, domestic  and I have always preferred turbos but that is my preference.  I have a neon, no wing or body kit (actually half the paint is peeled off ) the engine is built a little I make about 200hp at the wheels but I'm not going to run out and take on a corvette!   and all you guys throwing out hp numbers I'd like to see some torque ratings because that shows the real power your putting down.

I've got a simmilar story, I was crusing down the interstate in my '01 beetle 1.8t at about 4 in the morning on my way home from thanksgiving vacation. when  an "riced" up srt4 pulls up beside me and starts showing the signs he wanted to race, flashing lights, waving, loud radio, revving the motor. So i politely dropped to 3rd and 160hp pulling a 3k lb. car jumped up and hung with him all the way to 110 mph. at which my lovely piece of "cute" german enginering continued up to 145 leaving him shamed and shaken. It's not about how much horsepower is in your car, or how much "stuff" you add to it. I'm running stock exhaust, turbo, injectors. It's how you use it. I've got a K&N cone filter for increased flow at high rpms, lightweight pullys for quick acceleration, and i've improved airflow into and out of my engine bay. The difference is my car is tuned for the autobahn and his is built for america's 70mph highways. Just cause your car is "tuned" dosn't mean it's fast. on a side note, the feeling when they catch back up at a light and his girlfriend leans over to him, points to my car and says "you just got owned by that cute little car" is the best.

and yes, i have graphics and neons. They're good for shows. nothing else. and my wing... it was built on the car and dosn't even deploy untill you reach 90mph.

oh and a torque number... 160hp (at the wheels) and 180 ft. lbs. of torque. (even stoct the car was 150hp & 162 lbs of torque) Like i said, it's all about setup.

Lol, Ikeed, I have much love and respect for the FD, I really do.. But leave the Honda's alone!

If you took a look at the REAL tuners you'd have more respect for them.

its true that turbos are less stress on the motor it's self, but everything there after is strained. also, i dont know where you heard that superchargers take 40% of the crank... maybe for a late 1950's Cadillac sure, but that usually isnt the case for some of todays tuners. on a side note, all muscle car drivers that use roots superchargers will basically tell you the same thing... with huge engines it wants huge amounts of air, so what do you give it...? now, the reason they specifically go for eaton roots vs. centrifugal is solely because it gives a steady amount of air so as not to blow out the rear end while still getting great boost off the line, very much unlike the turbo which needs to spool up.

I heavily modded EVO can run with that, beat it auto-x most likely. Advantage of the turbo v8 is has a way higher top end than 4banger tuners. Use twin super chargers to be real raw power hardcore
