hello everybody, I was into the whole sport compact thing a few years ago and I since then sold my car and kind of got out of it. I got into the whole jeep thing and went to some jamborees and stuff but there is nothing like fixing up that sport compact and hearing it run. so my question is, Is it even worth it anymore to fix up a car, I have a chance to buy a acura legend for very cheap and fix it up. I do not see many cars out anymore nor do i hear of any shows or even talk of the whole tuner thing. So is it a thing of the past?

While it might've died down a little bit, I think the sport compact car industry is still strong and evolving. What initially began with modified Hondas and Acuras, has now spread to other vehicles of makes and models. Back in the day, people used to modify their cars to get 200hp, now it's common to see cars running well above 300hp.
So to answer your question, no, it's not a thing of the past. Events like HIN and D1GP are still popular, and while flashy cars may not be seen driving around town as much (thank goodness that craze died), people will always be around to modify their rides.

Cars are gradually getting bigger though. Civics have gone to Accord size and Corollas to Camrys... So the Honda Fit and the Toyota Yaris have replaced the compact car segment.

I think that people are always going to be interested in "bang for the buck". The definition of what is a "compact sports car" has evolved, but the love of going fast will NEVER go away. I personally could never substitute an off road machine for the speed of a car that's made to handle.
