very nice.but i have a few questions.i have a 1993 nissan sentra e,se,or xe(i dont know because when i bought the car all the badges where missing except for the one on the grill that says nissan),anyway, its a 1.6l i4 and it only has about 110hp.it also has over 224,000 miles on it.iguess what i want to know first is if you guys think its worth the effort to try and fix it up?if you do can you give me some options outside of doing an engine swap because thats out of the question(cant afford it).i want to know if there is some aftermarket parts that would give me at least 250hp without me having to take apart my engine.oh,i forgot to say i really dont know much about cars but i want to learn and eventually do my own teardown/buildup.

Dude! More than likely it's a Xe, if it's a 4dr. The S had a 1.6 but was a 2 dr. The SE was a two door but had the 2liter engine, the SR20. Then there was the SER, it came with the 2liter as well, but oh what a 2liter it was! It was the SR20de engine, depending on what part of the country it was made for. That all changed when the 2.5liter was made for the last generation Sentra that were made. Other countries got similar models but with different versions of the same engine, due to the difference in emissions laws. Any way, I hope that helped you.

hmm its seems your in a pickle 110hp-250hp with out touching the engine (man if there is a way of doing that im all ears yo) lol to be the honest i can be the only way to make another 140hp is to take apart the engine. i dont know alot about nissans and there engines but to get the power you want youll need the works (pistons, cam gears, cam shaft, turbo possibly) all that jazz

TH is right and I totally forgot to mention what he brought to light. You can't get horse power unless you have the money to spend on parts. 250hp with out touching the engine is near impossible. Some thing has to be done, just like my friend TheHormone says. I know Nissans pretty well and what you're asking is a lot with nothing to spend. You know? Take our advice and save up for a SR20 build and don't skimp on parts. You get what you pay for. OK?

alright fella's i will search for the SR20 engine but if i wanted to to rebuild the one that i already have what would you suggest i start with.i know that i would be tearing my block down but would you recomend using a block with 224000 miles on it?

As long as the block is in good shape. The machine shop will test the block for defects and such. They can do the same for the head, if you're going to reuse that as well. If you're not comfortable with that, find a suitable replacement and build that. In the end, you'll still be tearing the block down to do all that. Keep us posted on your progress.

Not really. I've only seen one built, in Puerto Rico, and it wasn't any thing to write home about. The block is good as a stock unit but they didn't leave much to work with. The guy who built it only got 160hp, before the turbo and when he turboed it, it blew a rod out the front of the block. the piston walls didn't fare too well. Sleeving may help it, but that's money. A SR20 or a KA20 is a better build. The lates 2.5 liter engine Nissan makes is more high maintenance than not. Weak lower end, poor head design. It's a small list but you get the idea. The only way to make the 2.5 better is to really rework every thing in that engine; crank, cams, valves, sleeving (if needed). I think you see what I mean. It's not an impossible feat, it just requires a lot of money, patience and some one honest that will guide you along the way with real advice on the work. The machine shop that will be used will have to be just as good with the advice and work as well.

They both have their ups and downs. The KA20 is an all steel block as is the SR20 in some cars. It depends on what you're looking for. The KA20 is best suited as a stroker engine and the SR20 is best suited as a high revving engine due to the DOHC. The KA is a SOHC. It will be up to the persons desired use. Which one is better? That's tough.

Have you seen the results of the Castrol challenge? I purchased the issue with "09" calander and in the pages it had the results of who won. It was the Mitsu engine. Very cool win. The page flipped out so you could see more of the contestants. There was a SR20 build that was pushing 900+ horse power with a 2.1L SR20! If they can do that... The possibilities are endless! The Low Rider Magazine, small block V8 was no slouch, either! Very impressive builds, over all. It was worth the wait to see that.

You are not kidding! I am amazed at all the projects they did. Too amazing! That Mitsu engine is really good. The Honda project was the least powerfull of them all, but it still put out an impressive number. 300+hp is nothing to sneeze at! Very nice, indeed!
